DutiesMajor Duties

The Amarillo VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for a Program Support Assistant (PSA) located in the Environmental Management Service. The employee performs duties in support of the Chief, Environmental Management Service. Responsibilities require familiarity with the entire operation of Environmental Management Service and substantial administrative knowledge of other department needs, locations and personnel. The incumbent utilizes a high level of confidentiality for all material and information regarding Environmental Management Service. Incumbent completes or assists management in expediting reports, compiling statistical data and maintaining extensive databases used to drive administrative decisions. This announcement is not intended to cover all the duties, responsibilities or qualifications of this position:

  • Primary support to the Environmental Management Service Chief, Assistant Chief, all Environmental Programs and its staff of over 60 full-time employees;

  • Primary timekeeper for all service staff;

  • Maintains the service calendar, answers the phone and relays messages timely;

  • Greets visitors to the service;

  • Orders service supplies and maintains an orderly stock supply;

  • Schedules all service-wide meetings and interviews for all levels of staff;

  • Provides orientation materials for supervisors' use with new employee;

  • Serves as service Records Liaison Officer and service Automated Data Processing Application Coordinator;

  • Prepares service Medical Center Memoranda for facility review;

  • Responsible for a significant portion of contract management support;

  • Responsible for the purchase, receipt and purchase card validation of all facility-owned textiles and uniforms.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Qualifications And EvaluationQualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(c), no person shall be appointed to a position in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) unless the person is a citizen of the United States.

TIME-IN-GRADE: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a General Schedule (GS) grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-06 Grade Level: Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:

Physical Requirements: The work of this position is primarily sedentary, with incumbent typically sitting or walking within office area. Work must be personally transported to other offices or buildings a few times weekly. Position requires routine standing for filing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers or binders, opening boxes and driving an automobile to go purchase orders at local stores.
