Job Summary

To provide varied administrative support of the Department of History’s routine business or academic activities. Responsible for a variety of administrative duties in the Department requiring moderate exercise of independent judgment, initiative and ability to make decisions relative to office operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in the management of Department activities which include symposiums, exhibits, and official meetings; help maintain calendar of events and undertake event planning and promotional efforts; provide research and compile data for various projects conducted by the Department and its Chair.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with one (1) year upper level secretarial experience or high school with five (5) years of increasingly responsible administrative, secretarial and clerical experience with one (1) year of supervisory experience. Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with public relations activities including traditional and online marketing and event planning. Demonstrated experience with graphic design, project management, and the oversight/direction of social media applications. Ability to maintain/manage departmental website.
