L-3 Communications Business Dev Sr Manager in Arlington, Texas

The Business Development Manager will support business development for total training solutions, high technology simulations, simulators, training development, and training programs for domestic and international customers.

Key position responsibilities include:

  • Develop new business opportunities, qualify opportunities, influence customer requirements, and understand customer funding; position company for a high probability of win; lead the transition effort to a Capture Manager to conduct the proposal and final capture effort
  • Understand customer decision-making, funding process, and budgets
  • Conduct business development activities including market research and analysis, strategic business planning, new business forecasting and capture, and proposal activities
  • Develop outstanding business relationships with customers that will bring new business to Link and maintain our current business lines
  • Conduct business development activities for products and services
  • Lead the “follow-on” business development efforts on existing programs

Additional responsibilities and accountabilities associated with this high level business development position include:

  • Participate in broader Company marketing strategies and business planning
  • Advise higher management on status or action required in connection with existing and potential opportunities
  • Assist in the formulation of advertising campaigns and approve publicity releases and promotional activities
  • Develop close working relationships across all functions of the Link organization including program management, engineering, services, and senior management
  • Develop competitive information and insight on competitors to better ensure that Link capabilities compete effectively
  • Develop relationships with other companies and develop teaming relationships as appropriate
  • Prepare reports and make presentations to senior executives detailing potential alliances/partnerships, performance, business opportunities, competitive issues, and plans to achieve operating objectives


  • B.S. Degree in business or technical field;or equivalent required
  • MBA preferred
  • Candidates must have 8 years of directly related experience in the defense industry and a thorough understanding of strategic planning and new business capture processes, methods and techniques
  • The ability to perform customer and competitive analysis in support of business and marketing strategies
  • Engaging personality able to coordinate and work with cross-functional teams involved in the development of business strategies and customer proposals
  • Strong communication skills to advise team members and senior management on status and actions required relative to existing and potential new business opportunities
  • Good analytical skills relating to business development process
  • Microsoft Office Suite skills, including PowerPoint
  • Ability to make formal presentations to senior decision makers
  • Experience developing proposal strategies
  • Ability to travel 25% - 50%
  • Program Management experience in simulation and training is highly desirable
  • Clearance: Secret (preferred) or the ability to secure a clearance
