L-3 Communications Senior Systems Architect & Technologist in Arlington, Texas


  • Manage company-wide program architectures and emerging technologies in support of state-of-the-art training systems applications in simulation

  • Drive architecture and prototype implementation in support of the training system product line goals

  • Lead company-wide architecture team to develop solutions for new proposals

  • Develop strategic and tactical plans for the development of cost effective and technically compliant new or modified architectures supporting future customer training needs

  • Oversee the implementation of these architectures and technologies in both the proposal and product implementation for customer’s training system

  • Provide recommendations to IR&D for prototype development

  • Establish and maintain company-wide matrix of architectures, components, and standard products currently deployed on all existing and previously deployed training devices

  • Develop technology insertion plans to upgrade existing architectures or products to meet future customer needs

  • Participate in re-use/make/buy decisions and determination of proposal solutions

  • Ensure optimal re-use in all proposals and programs

  • Ensure successful deployment of technologies, architectures, and products into programs

  • Conduct product demos

  • Act as liaison among IR&D activities, Development of standard Solutions and Products, Company Functional Management, Senior Subject Matter Experts, Chief Engineers, PEs/PEMs/PMs, and Executive Management


  • Must have a multi-program knowledge base with DoD (Army, Navy, Air Force) to be able to search for and extract the best technologies and architectures utilized throughout the training system or simulation industry

  • Must be able to provide a balanced architecture optimizing the hardware, software, logistics, and Instructional System Design (ISD) components to deliver the most cost effective solution meeting all customer requirements

  • Must be familiar with Design to Cost development strategies

  • Must have experience with adopting the Capability Maturity Model® Integration (CMMI) process improvement approach and supporting engineering activities

  • Must have knowledge of emerging technologies, government trends/initiatives (i.e., DMO, JTA, MDA, UML, CORBA, J2EE, XML, .NET, Interoperability, HLA, DIS, C4ISR interfaces, web-based applications, DoDAF)

  • Ability to assess vendor capabilities and products

  • Ability to recommend an architecture implementation supporting recent

  • Government requirements for Information Assurance (architecture and computer security)


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science, or equivalent experience in an engineering discipline in a Aerospace company

  • 15 years System Engineering complex systems

  • 10 years experience with recent software and hardware development and specialty engineering practices

  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience

  • Past experience with developing architectures across many different functional areas

  • Ability to develop innovative solutions

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
