Job Summary

This role is responsible for designing, building and tuning log storage solutions that support a variety of security intelligence tools. This is a highly technical, hands-on position that requires a wide and deep expertise with modern storage and security tools and development in an enterprise environment. This individual will need to collaborate across multiple engineering and infrastructure operations teams to support customer requirements and deliver innovative solutions in key areas:

Engineering - design, plan and deploy storage clusters and data services

Reliability - debugging, efficiency, performance, and above all uptime at global scale

Capacity Planning - partner with customers to predict and maintain adequate capacity

Automation and tooling to enable

• Deployment, operation, and administration of complex distributed storage systems handling petabytes of log data

• End to end troubleshooting of issues across the entire stack including network, hardware, software and application

• Testing, monitoring, and alerting of a distributed storage systems

Key Qualifications

  • 5+ years of managing services in a distributed, mission critical *nix environment

  • Experience installing, configuring and supporting Hadoop clusters

  • Experience supporting services in cloud compute environments

  • Experience with data streaming, batch and ETL technologies

  • Proficient with various programming languages such as Python/Perl/Go/C++ for automation or integration with multiple APIs (REST, SOAP, RPC)

  • Solid understanding of network protocols and enterprise network architecture

  • Solid understanding of Linux/Unix system internals

  • Excellent communication skills, must be capable of working with cross functional technical and business teams and varying levels of management

  • Experience implementing and working with open source projects

  • Solid understanding of centralized configuration management and provisioning technologies, such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet, etc.

  • Experience with data storage (SQL, no-SQL) technologies and fast path query techniques

  • Strong project management skills, including excellent presentation development

  • Must be capable of writing detailed solution specifications, diagrams, best practices/standards documentation, operating procedures, test plans/test reports, etc.Description

• Understand how data sources need to be stored to allow Information Security to better protect Apple employees and customers from a wide range of threats

• Act as the subject matter expert for log storage on behalf of the Information Security organization

• Analyze and asses application, system, and appliance event log storage requirements supporting Apple’s threat monitoring program

• Own relationships with application teams to better understand log storage needs to guide the implementation of storage systems

• Guide the overall direction of Apple’s security logging program in conjunction with customer and partner teams

• Develop log storage guidelines and baseline documentation to simplify compliance with Apple security and operational standards

• Identify opportunities to improve security log storage Apple-wide

• Develop standard metrics to measure the effectiveness of Apple’s Information Security log storage program, including the assessment of the quality and efficiency of log data received.

• Collaborate with the Information Security analytic teams to gather requirements and deliver operational capabilities


Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or 7+ years of equivalent, hands-on technology experience in large enterprise environments
