POSITION SUMMARY

The AVP works in concert with the HCA Trauma Medical Director, Regional Trauma Director, Director of HCA Central Trauma Registry and VP of Business Development to carry out the mission of the St. David’s Healthcare Trauma Network and to lead development of strategies and tools to advance clinical performance in defined segments of trauma services. Works with the Central & West Texas Division and Facility Senior Officers and trauma services staff to assure appropriate alignment of improvement, growth, compliance, and technology advances within the trauma center system.

The AVP serves as a professional expert on trauma services to ensure the delivery of optimal quality trauma patient care as defined by national and state standards of practice. The position ensures trauma center readiness and compliance with the American College of Surgeons and Texas Department of Health trauma center regulations. Additionally, the position has oversight of registry data, performance metrics, and research initiatives that produce exemplary optimal quality outcomes and performance for the CWT HCA Trauma Network trauma centers.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carries out the strategic and long-range planning for the Network.

  • Participates in the development of goals and objectives for trauma services that are in alignment with the HCA Trauma Service line, hospital, division and group strategic plans.

  • Defines standards of Trauma care for nursing and patient care services which promote a multidisciplinary approach to coordination of patient care, meets regulatory and legal standards and integrates evidence based practice.

  • Advises and consults on new development, trauma center survey readiness, performance metrics and research activities.

  • Collaborates with the Trauma Registry Director in registry activities that promote data integrity and reporting performance metrics across the enterprise trauma centers.

  • Facilitates gap analysis, coordinates assessment measures and advises on financial pro formas with facilitates for development of trauma centers.

  • Participates in the HCA Trauma Network meetings and activities.

  • Collaborates with group, division and facility senior leadership, Trauma Medical Directors, Trauma Program Managers/Directors, Trauma physicians to promote evidenced based practice to troubleshoot /problem solve issues or processes and monitors appropriate corrective action plans.

  • Monitors routine reports of variance and outliers, sources of problems, actions taken and effectiveness of the resolution.

  • Participates in conducting and analyzing evaluations of hospital Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) plans.

  • Prepares an annual review summarizing all areas identified as problematic, needing improvement with action plans taken and status of outcomes.

  • Serves as a change agent, assisting staff to assimilate change in processes and practices.

  • Demonstrates initiative in professional development. Fosters an environment of professionalism, collegiality and collaboration, and ethical practice.

    EDUCATION

    Masters' and Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required

    EXPERIENCE

    Required:

    Minimum 10 years direct clinical emergency or critical care trauma care experience

    Minimum of 5 years leadership experience as a Trauma Program Manager/Director in a nationally recognized verified Level I or II trauma center.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Demonstrated expertise in negotiation, coaching, and interpersonal skills. Advanced skills in clinical leadership and financial management and research initiatives. Ability to guide individuals and groups toward desired outcomes, setting high performance standards and delivering quality services.

    LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

    Required: Current active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.

    Preferred: Member of Society of Trauma Nurses, Association of Surgery for Trauma, and other national trauma professional organizations.
