LongView International Automation Test Engineer in Austin, Texas

The Test Engineer will develop and execute software test plans to identify software/hardware problems and their causes; establish and maintain a process for evaluating hardware, software, and associated documentation; and conduct, assist and/or participate in formal and informal evaluation and reviews at pre-determined points throughout the development life cycle.


  • Create detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases by collaborating with architects, developers and project managers
  • Create and manage test data for automated and manual test scripts
  • Perform manual and automated testing according to test plans
  • Conduct software compatibility tests with programs, hardware, operating systems, or network environments
  • Develop and define major and minor characteristics of quality including quality metrics and scoring parameters and determine requisite quality control resources
  • Design test plans, scenarios, scripts, or procedures and develop automated testing tools
  • Develop or specify standards, methods, or procedures to determine product quality or release readiness
  • Develop testing programs that address areas such as database impacts, software scenarios, regression testing, negative testing, error or bug retests, or usability
  • Document software defects using a bug tracking system
  • Perform initial debugging by reviewing configuration files, logs, or code to determine breakdown source
  • Document test procedures to ensure reliability and compliance with standards
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to developers on software usability and functionality
  • Review software design documentation to ensure technical accuracy/compliance/completeness to mitigate risk
  • Prepare and execute test cases using Rational Quality Manager and other tools as required
  • Participate in product design reviews to provide input on testability of functional requirements and product designs, as well as LOEs for scheduling and planning

  • Experience validating functional acceptance criteria in an agile environment
  • Experience using test automation tools, e.g., Rational Functional Tester, Rational Performance Tester, Team Foundation Server
  • Experience in Web services testing using SoapUI
  • Extensive experience in Performance and Load testing
  • Experience using Rational Team Concert
  • Strong understanding of Requirements Traceability
  • Bachelors and 5 yrs experience
