Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission Clerk II Intern in Austin, Texas
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is looking for applicants for a temporary full-time or temporary part-timeinternship with theTax Division. The tax division is charged with the oversight of the taxing authority of the agency. Personnel receive, process and audit monthly excise tax reports to ensure taxes have been paid and that other reporting requirements are in adherence with the Alcoholic Beverage Code. The division also is responsible for overseeing the promotion of alcoholic beverage products as well as the testing and labeling of the products in Texas.The intern selected for this position will gain knowledge in the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code, Marketing Practices,the excise tax process,and examination of business records.
The internship position performs routine (journey-level) clerical work for the Tax Division. Work involves compiling and tabulating data, typing correspondence and other documents, checking documents for accuracy, transporting documents, scanning documents and maintaining files. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Examples of Duties:
Produces and proofs correspondence, reports, purchase orders, summaries, manuals, vouchers, records, and other related forms.
Answers inquiries regarding policies and procedures, assists the public and staff in filling out forms, and provides information to the public by mail or phone.
Posts information to agency records and modifies forms or records.
Assembles, organizes, and tabulates data and performs calculations; may prepare charts, graphs, and tables.
Files and maintains supplies, forms, records, and reports.
Opens and distributes incoming mail and prepares mail-outs.
Performs data entry and retrieval.
Delivers, picks up, or receives documents, supplies, equipment, or materials; checks for quantity and quality; or makes arrangements for repairs and services.
May maintain office schedules and appointments and perform backup receptionist or telephone switchboard duties.
May receive and count cash, take deposits to the bank, and maintain accountability for and forward payments to the appropriate agency staff.
May administer employment tests.
May arrange the scheduling, transfer, and display of surplus property; and may assist in conducting physical inventory.
Performs related work as assigned.
General Qualification Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent. Currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college/ university with a major in Business, Government, Accounting, Marketing, Economics or related field. OR College graduation date on or after August 31, 2015 with a major in Business, Government, Accounting, Marketing, Economics or related field. Experience in MS Word and MS Excel preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of office procedures; of spelling, punctuation, grammar, and arithmetic; and of business or program terminology, methods, and procedures.
Skill in using a personal computer and office equipment.
Ability to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports; to transfer stock from one location to another; and to communicate effectively.
