Purpose

Perform journey-level work as a concrete finisher in support of campus facility construction, renovation, and repair projects. Provide diverse support to campus special events.

Essential Functions

Construct, repair, and remove all types of concrete structures. Excavate sites; build forms; install reinforcing steel; and pour concrete for slabs, footings, sidewalks, walls, piers, driveways, and ramps. Provide different surface finishes, including trowel, broom, and exposed aggregate. Set posts, poles, and other permanent ground fixtures. Sawcut concrete and asphalt for repair work. Assist other shop trades personnel with project-related duties, including masonry; welding; demolition in support of facility renovations; installation and removal of scaffolding; pressure washing and sandblasting exterior surfaces; and relocation of heavy equipment for clients. Support campus special events, including delivery and setup of banners, flags, and production equipment. Read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical manuals. Work from both written and verbal instructions. Compute concrete quantities and provide project cost estimates. Inspect completed work for compliance with construction documents, and regulatory building and safety codes. Assist in shop operations. Maintain and properly secure shop, tools, equipment, and vehicles. Maintain a clean and safe work environment in shop and at job sites. Comply with safety standards and policies. Drive UT vehicle in support of campus projects and special events. Accomplish basic shop paperwork and electronic documents, including records for materials used, daily labor reports, and weekly timesheets.

Licenses: Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions

Attend management-directed meetings and training. Accomplish other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Three years experience as a journey-level concrete finisher in residential or commercial construction. Before final offer can be made, successful applicant must provide a current driver's license and acceptable driving record for the most recent 36 months. Texas driving history will be confirmed online during selection process; applicant must provide out-of-state driving history, if previously licensed in another state. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Associates degree or graduation from vocational or technical training in concrete finishing, masonry, or facility renovation or construction. Five or more years journey-level experience in concrete finishing. Demonstrated ability to produce quality work from project drawings, specifications, construction standards, or written/verbal instructions with or without direct supervision. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with clients, co-workers, and supervisors in a team environment. Experience with other shop trades, including asphalt repair, heavy equipment operation, masonry, and welding. Basic computer skills, including word processing, email, and Internet. Commitment to and compliance with organizational values, goals, policies, and rules regarding customer service, job performance, and job-related safety. Experience working in a large university or commercial/industrial physical plant.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
