HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Education Specialist Registered Nurse (RN) in Austin, Texas
Position Summary: The Clinical Education Specialist functions autonomously and in collaboration with the Institute staff, recruitment, facility leadership, and clinical staff to facilitate the improvement of clinical practice within the SDH facilities. The Clinical Education Specialist participates in the on-boarding, development and education of clinical staff, consultation with identified facilities, units or business lines, development of training modules and/or curriculum, research and role modeling of professional nursing practice. Coordinates, manages and provides clinical education as a resource person and by working cooperatively with the Education Consortium as well as other internal and external sources. Serves in leadership roles and as a change agent to promote change efforts throughout St. David’s HealthCare.
Principle Responsibilities: 1. Demonstrates advanced educational/teaching skills in course development and instructional design. 1.1 Utilizes adult learning theory and principles to foster educational development. 1.2 Identifies educational needs and development of programs to support education of staff. 1.3 Develops appropriate material, simulations and visual aids to supplement training materials and assist with instruction. 1.4 Plans, develops, presents, and evaluates educational programs. 1.5 Utilizes technology in teaching, such as simulation technologies, power point, videos and electronic course development, in order to facilitate effective learning. 1.6 Creates and updates evaluation instruments to monitor education program and effectiveness. 1.7 Makes changes based on evaluation feedback. 1.8 Ensures the scheduling of space, time and personnel for all programs and classes for site programs. 1.9 Provides and coordinates marketing for courses such as brochures, webinars, etc. to ensure dissemination of current information for programs and strategies. 1.10 Assists with continuing education programs and conferences.
- Uses advanced skills of consultation and identification of change to facilitate and enhance programs and processes. 2.1 Demonstrates excellent communication, presentation and problem solving skills. 2.2 Consults and collaborates with staff, management and other disciplines to identify, update and maintain requirements of electronic competency system within SDH. 2.3 Collaborates with the Education Consortium members to develop and maintain an annual plan for competency assessments and rolls out to facilities in all areas. 2.4 Provides recommendations related to problem identification and proposed resolutions. 2.5 Collaborates with multiple disciplines to benchmark current and future practice. 2.6 Meets regularly with Director for Academy of Clinical Excellence to review program goals and objectives. 2.7 Facilitates, promotes and supports change process identifying internal and external sources to meet facility needs. 2.8 Utilizes and promotes evidence-based practice in education programs and clinical practice. 2.9 Interprets and models the professional role of nursing to staff, physicians, and other disciplines.
Serves as a resource to SDH educators and staff, as well as external educational partners 3.1 Acts as a liaison between SDH and the nursing schools to facilitate clinical rotations. 3.2 Participates in the Healthcare Workforce Alliance of Central Texas (hwACT) as needed to ensure community needs and clinical rotation objectives are met. 3.3 Assists with educational compliance of regulatory requirements for nursing schools and SDH facilities. 3.4 Provides leadership for Texas Nurses Association Continuing Education Providership and American Heart Association Training Center. 3.5 Coaches staff in career development as needed. 3.6 Participates on appropriate task forces and committees. 3.7 Provides feedback to Director/Unit Managers/Educators to assist with evaluation of staff. 3.8 Assist with projects as assigned by the Director for the Academy of Clinical Excellence.
Provides for own professional growth and development. 4.1 Manages own projects as project consultant and facilitator works towards agreed upon timelines and outcomes. 4.2 Attends mandatory education and in-services. 4.3 Writes personal development goals and evaluates annually. 4.4 Maintains level of knowledge in related professional field.

*Education and Experience: Required: *Master’s Degree in Nursing.
Skills: Attainment of wide variety of people skills including a service orientation as demonstrated through examples of written and oral communication. Demonstrated experience in areas of planning and organization. Basic proficiency in computer applications required.
Experience: Minimum three years of clinical experience in an acute care setting and experience with formalized course development and instruction.
Licenses and Certificates: Required: Texas RN license; Current BLS Provider; Recent health care experience Preferred: Certification in Specialty; BLS, ACLS, PALS, and/or TNCC Instructor
