The Infection Preventionist RN plans, implements, and evaluates infection prevention and control measures.
Monitors and investigates known or suspected sources of infections in order to determine the source and ensure control.
Reviews, analyzes, and implements regulations, standards, and/or guidelines of applicable governmental agencies and professional organizations.
Collaborates in the development and delivery of educational programs and/or tools that relate to infection prevention, control, and epidemiology.
Reports infection surveillance, prevention and control in formation to local, state and federal public health authorities in accordance with law and regulation.
Plans, implements and evaluates infection prevention and control measures. Develops and implements policies and procedures based on currently accepted infection prevention and control best practices. Reviews, analyzes and implements regulations, standards and/or guidelines of applicable governmental agencies and professional organizations. Collaborates on the development/review of policies/procedures, development of vaccine programs and management of exposures related to communicable diseases.
Utilizes epidemiological principles to conduct surveillance and investigations. Employs statistical techniques to describe data, calculate risk-adjusted rates and benchmark. Incorporates information technology and systems applications in the analysis and dissemination of data.
Integrates surveillance findings into formal plans for improvement of practice and patient outcomes. Analyzes and applies pertinent information from current scientific literature and publications. Participates in epidemiological investigations, research and other special studies related to infection prevention and control.
Collaborates in the development and delivery of educational programs and/or tools that relate to infection prevention, control and epidemiology. Supports patients/families, administration, committees, healthcare providers and ancillary staff in infection prevention, control and epidemiology issues. Ensures findings, recommendations and policies of the infection prevention and control program are disseminated to appropriate groups or individuals. Ensures requirements for communicable disease reporting are met.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Certified Certification specializing in Infection Control credentialed from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC) obtained within 36 Months (3 years) of hire date or job transfer date.
Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing .
Education & Experience:
HS or Equivalent
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Nursing is preferred
Note: By January 1, 2021, all associates in this job title must have completed a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher nursing degree
Five (5) years of clinical experience is required, preferably in an acute care facility.
Bachelor's degree in Nursing can substitute for two (2) of the required years of experience.
Training in infection prevention and control is preferred.
