*POSITION SUMMARY: * Assists and supports the physician and other staff members by providing quality patient care with the admission of the patient to the clinical area, the collection of patient information/medical data in a confidential and organized manner, assistance with treatments, procedures, examinations and the referral of patients to specialists or ancillary care. Maintains medical supply inventory, stocking, and biohazard medical wastes management. Adheres to departmental policies and procedures to include departmental programs, quality control, quality assurance and safety. Has the opportunity to specialize into a role further supporting employee health of St. David’s Healthcare or into an occupational health technical specialist.
EDUCATION: High School graduate or GED, required. Bachelor’s degree in applicable medical field or Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant in the State ofTexas, preferred.
*EXPERIENCE: * Six months of clinical experience in a similar medical setting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * *Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA’s and St. David’s “Patients First” safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures. Basic physical assessment and nursing care skills for adult age groups; ability to effectively and courteously handle patient and staff relations; good oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; familiarity with medical supplies, equipment and requirement for ADA, OSHA, infection control and safety. Must be able to effectively communicate employer clients, patients, staff, and physicians. Recognizes that variables such as age, race, nationality, culture, disease-causing vulnerabilities, socioeconomic factors affect the patient populations under their care.
