HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Nurse Practitioner - Trauma Dept - FT - Days in Austin, Texas

Under the general supervision of the Director of Trauma Services, the Trauma APRN participates as a member of the St. David’s South Austin Hospital Nursing Department to assist in improving the trauma patient flow within the hospital. Under the medical supervision and direction of the Trauma Medical Director and/or trauma service line physicians, the Trauma APRN conducts rounds on patients, documents patient progress, performs assessments, coordinates and evaluates the plan of care and documents, implements and oversees discharge plans as within the Trauma APRN scope of practice and as permitted under Texas Law.

The Trauma APRN demonstrates mastery of the specific knowledge and skills required for the trauma care specialty.

Additionally, the Trauma APRN furthers the quality of patient care through the development and presentation of staff educational programs, promotes research based and advanced nursing practice & promotes the values and standards of St. David’s South Austin Medical Center and the St. David’s Healthcare Partnership. The Trauma APRN also actively participates and is expected to attend at least 75% of the trauma process improvement and committee meetings.

  • LEVEL OF FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIRED: * Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Masters Degree in Nursing. Completion of a program of study that meets the requirements for advanced nurse practice by the State of Texas. Currently licensed as a RN by the Texas Board of Nursing and currently licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) by the Texas Board of Nursing.

    • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as RN Registered Nurse, preferably in the critical care area or trauma related specialty.

    • One year of APRN experience preferred

    • Certification in specialty area preferred

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • Maintains good computer skills

    • Current BLS, ACLS required

    • Current TNCC preferred

    • Must attend ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) within 6 months of hire and maintain current verification thereafter

    • 16 hours of Trauma related CME required annually
