Participate in analytical, investigative, and other fact-finding work in support of product developers and Specification Analysts. Review new product ideas or strategic product extensions to evaluate their potential, address customer needs, and communicate recommendations to the procurement team. Lead the collection and finalization of vendor compliance documentation for new products, line extensions, and change requests. Support the development of design briefs for new product ideas, including specifications, sketches, and/or models to present a clear, focused concept for strategic development and marketing. Manage the project pipeline with respect to compliance documentation to ensure accurate information is provided to the Design and Packaging Compliance team. Coordinate strategic label auditing to support compliance of product requirements, quality, and functionality.
Coordinate the timely release of final label and package sensitive information to the Design and Packaging Compliance team according to the category review schedule and agreed upon timelines (release to design function)
Direct the development and finalization of finished product attributes and documentation by managing internal and vendor communications
Collaborate with the Design and Packaging Compliance team to ensure product labels are compliant with government regulations.
Provide nutritional recommendations and guidance to procurement and Innovation and Quality (IQ) team during new product development and product cuttings
Assist specification analyst in reviewing technical specifications, with special attention to ingredients, WFM quality standards, nutrition, and allergens
Manage the product change request process and act as main point of contact with vendors
Work with Global Quality Assurance teams to determine most appropriate allergen statements based on product risk and information provided by the vendor
May work with National Marketing and Media teams to communicate and promote value, quality, and nutritional content of Exclusive Brand products to the community through various media outlets (i.e. television, print, etc)
Provide guidance to Integrated Media team by reviewing publications and recipe makeover projects to ensure that reference to claims and nutrition for Exclusive Brand products are accurately communicated to customers and team members
Answer nutrition and ingredient related customer questions for Exclusive Brand products
Establish and maintain protocol for third party lab nutritional testing with support from Silliker and the Supplier Operations team
Maintain labeling policies and procedures for special diets (vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, etc.) and work with the IQ team, marketing, integrated media, the Design and Packaging Compliance team, and the vendor to ensure they are being used accurately on Exclusive Brand labels and other forms of communication
Send vendors Feingold product inquiry forms for completion and communicate completed forms to the Feingold Association for their evaluation and potential inclusion in their educational material to members
Conduct “on shelf” label audits, as needed, to ensure compliance of product label information and regulations are being adhered to
Record and track product and label compliance issues through established systems. Work with Design and Packaging Compliance team to prioritize, resolve, and close label issues
Manage training for team processes and procedures as part of a cross-functional task force (GORP)
Ensure that all the label sensitive information is accurately documented for product web pages and customer/TM inquiries in terms of claims, nutrition, ingredients, allergens, etc.
Support UK and Canada teams’ with maintaining labeling regulations by providing detailed product information related to nutrition, allergens, and ingredients
Be a registered dietitian or have a related 4-year degree and have extensive nutrition-related experience in clinical, teaching, or culinary/food manufacturing environments
Strong project management skills
Experience working in consumer packaged goods industry
Knowledge of food safety and food processing environments
Knowledge of food labeling and FDA/USDA regulations
General understanding of product development and commercialization
Familiarity of retailer web based specification systems would be ideal
