Purpose

To provide short-term individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, prevention and outreach services to undergraduate and graduate students and provide training activities such as individual supervision, preceptorships, apprenticeships, co-leading and supervising therapy groups, and leading trainee seminars.

Essential Functions

Provide short-term individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, prevention and outreach services to undergraduate and graduate students. Provision of training activities such as individual supervision, preceptorships, apprenticeships, co-leading and supervising therapy groups, and leading trainee seminars. Provision of consultation with professional staff. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with other mental health professionals on CMHC's multidisciplinary staff and other university departments and organizations. Reviews client record to determine the progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment services offered. Maintains current, accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with state and federal law, professional ethics, and Counseling and Mental Health Center, CMHC, policies. Coordinates referrals between CMHC and university or community service providers. Attend and participate in departmental and division meetings and staff development programs as assigned.

Required qualifications

Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology. Licensed as a Psychologist in the State of Texas or licensed as a Psychologist in another state and must be able to obtain license in the State of Texas within one year of date of hire. One year, full-time post-doctoral clinical experience in college or university counseling center or other relevant clinical setting; preferably graduation from an APA accredited doctoral program and completion of APA accredited internship. Experience in high demand outpatient or inpatient health setting. Experience providing culturally competent treatment to a diverse client population. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge and experience in working with serious mental illness. At least 3 years of significant experience in providing short-term individual and crisis intervention services to a culturally diverse population. At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in high demand outpatient or inpatient health settings. At least 3 years of experience providing crisis intervention, triage, care coordination, and brief therapy to young adults and/or college students. Experience working in a college/university counseling center or outpatient mental health setting. At least 1 year significant experience in providing crisis intervention services to a culturally diverse population. Ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team of mental health providers. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with campus personnel, such as professionals in academic affairs and other student services providers. Demonstrated ability to work within a large system, and to participate and collaborate effectively in a large mental health services agency. Demonstrated ability to maintain a flexible yet highly organized working style. Licensed as a Psychologist for a minimum of two years.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
