We are seeking an experienced, high caliber Senior Director of Global Chronic Pain and Movement Disorder Therapy Education. This position will have responsibility for developing the educational strategy and deploying employee and customer education for our Chronic Pain and Movement Disorder therapy area. In this role, the Sr. Director will work closely with Product Marketing and Sales to understand strategies, challenges and opportunities as the basis for developing sales force-focused and customer-focused education strategies. He/she will lead efforts to develop, gain alignment around and implement the therapy-focused education strategy designed to deploy overall marketing strategies, tools and messages defined by Product Marketing. With a focus on leveraging global experience, capabilities and content, he/she will lead a team to develop and deploy educational tools and programs to build clinical, technical and sales competence among the field force, develop the market and establish SJM therapies as standard of care through customer training initiatives. He/she will innovate our approach to education to establish training as a competitive advantage. Commercial experience working with sales professionals and customers is required. Skill in leading the development of multi-channel educational strategies leveraging best practices in adult learning, remote learning, activity-based learning and global content development is invaluable. This senior level role will report to the Vice President of Global Education.

Impact this role will have on St. Jude Medical:

  • With sufficient understanding of disease state and therapy area, collaborates with Product Marketing and global Sales to understand strategies, challenges and opportunities

  • Develops and executes educational and training strategies for employees and customers using best practices across the education organization to enable STJ sales globally

  • Align cross-functionally within the Global Education organization, as well as with partners in Sales, Product Marketing, Clinical, R&D and HCE&R to develop, target and measure training-based initiatives. Customer-targeted initiatives may include physician education programs, peer-to-peer education, fellows training, and appropriate product use in new standards of care

  • Sales force-focused training initiatives may include supporting key commercial priorities such as training for new hires, product launches, evidence updates and competitive blunting initiatives

  • Recruit, develop, lead and performance; manage a team of trainers to develop educational tools and programs aligned with marketing strategies that build the SJM brand to enable sales globally through education and training

  • Retain a diverse, highly qualified staff and provides ongoing performance feedback

  • Sets goals which align to organizational plans and manages the execution of goals through mentoring

  • Engage with product marketing to ensure implementation of educational modules, programs and tools in support of launch preparation, sales execution and market penetration

  • Engages strategically with the sales force globally to identify key sales priorities and educational activities to advance market development and enable sales

  • Define, track and report metrics on the value of educational programs developed and uses metrics to drive change in both behavior and performance

  • Exercise judgment in planning and organizing work; uses best business practices to ensure success in areas of responsibility

  • Hires and retains a diverse, highly qualified staff and provides ongoing performance feedback

  • Sets goals which align to department plans and manages the execution of goals through coaching and mentoring

  • Maintains a safe and professional work environment

  • Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments

  • Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned

Your experience(s), education and knowledge will further expand St. Jude Medical’s marketplace success:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university

  • A minimum of twelve years of progressive industry experience consisting of increasing responsibility in sales, sales management, marketing, training, research or engineering

  • A minimum of six plus years of demonstrated experience at a supervisory/managerial level

  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment

  • Neuromodulation product experience

  • Previous experience in Education and Training desired

  • An MBA or advanced graduate degree, preferred

  • Professional training/education certification or designation, preferred

  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross division business unit model preferred

  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment

  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results

  • Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization

  • Multi-tasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner

  • Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold others accountable

  • Ability to travel approximately 40%, including internationally

  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance
