The role

EA Mobile is looking for a Studio Technical Director for one of our mobile studios. The successful candidate will have a strong mix of technical and managerial experience within the games industry, with mobile experience being a strong preference. As the Studio Technical Director, you will mentor and work closely with the Technical Directors of the studio’s games to help overcome technical issues, drive and support best practices, and to set clear technical guidelines and expectations for the studio’s games and services.

The successful candidate will represent and provide leadership for the engineering discipline as a whole for the studio. As Studio Technical Director, you will become the technical point of contact for the studio – acting as the main interface between teams, both internal and external to EA. In particular, this will require identifying gaps in 1st and 3rd party integration points, driving responsible parties to close those gaps, and identifying and managing overall technical dependencies and risks for the studio.

In collaboration with other technical leaders in the organization, you will work to define a technical vision for the studio, and bring the technical experience and expertise required to drive the realization of that vision that allows us to create great games.


  • Responsible for the quality of technical deliveries for all studio titles.

  • Coach and mentor Technical Directors within the studio.

  • Approve technical designs for all high-risk/high-impact systems.

  • Embodies and drives the overall engineering culture within the studio.

  • Set and enforce professional software standards and best practices, across all engineering teams within the studio.

  • Collaborate and coordinate with game Technical Directors to identify opportunities and resolve risks.

  • Co-operate with other team leaders to manage change.

  • Work through technical leads to help provide solutions to project-wide problems.

  • Identify and manage technical risks and opportunities with 1st and 3rd party integrations.

  • Identify and manage technical dependencies and risks for the studio.

  • Recruit and retain world-class talent to the studio locations.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent

  • At least ten years working in field of software development.

  • Effective conflict management skills.

  • Proven experience directly managing engineering teams.

  • Successfully launched mobile apps/games that are run as a Live Service.

  • Prior experience with console/PC development preferred.

  • Intimate knowledge of technical considerations, both for client and server.

  • Experience balancing technical, team, product and business requirements with successful outcomes.

  • Flexibility to travel between studio locations (US and Canada).
