Texas Parks & Wildlife Systems Analyst II in Austin, Texas

Under the direction of the Finance/Administration Branch Manager, this position is responsible for providing intermediate level Desktop Computer Support within the Infrastructure (INF) Division. Supports OS, centralized applications and desktop applications in a distributed Microsoft environment. Resolves network, telecommunications and application problems for local and remote users. Involved in IT/Agency technology projects and participates in major IT technology deployment projects within the Division. Ensures that optimal desktop performance, capacity, availability and security are maintained for all divisional users. Provides assistance in the implementation and use of data processing hardware or software. Assist with various technical, training, research, program assessment, planning, policy, and administrative activities related to the Capital Construction, Minor Construction, Technical Assistance, and other Infrastructure Division programs. Works as member of the INF systems team to create and maintenance security permissions related to the Division's Project directory and Division's Public. Assist in the archiving of all project related data. Responsible for insuring that all software licenses comply with the End User License Agreement. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional work as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

Qualification Guidelines:


  • Sixty semester hours from an accredited college or university. Experience:

  • Four years full-time experience in computer systems support. Licensure:

  • If driving is required, applicant must possess a valid class "C" Texas driver's license.


  • One additional year full-time computer systems support experience may substitute for 30 semester hours of the required education with a maximum substitution of 60 semester hours. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education:

  • Major course work in field of Information Technology or other Information Technology related field of study. Experience:

  • Experience working with Desktop and Network Environments to including Desktop and laptop Computers, and related hardware devices;

  • Experience working with computer software to include Windows Operating Systems, Office Suites, Virus protection, asset management, software license tracking;
  • MS Access, Statistical Analysis Software (SAS), or similar reporting software;
  • Microsoft Project and SharePoint.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Internet software to include: Internet browsers, email, FTP;
  • Knowledge of customer support skills that include: management of divisional IT request, prioritizing request and communication to end-users;
  • Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, Office Suites, Virus protection, asset management, and software license tracking;
  • Knowledge of MS Access, Statistical Analysis Software (SAS), or similar reporting software;
  • Knowledge of Project Delivery processes (Construction);
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project;
  • Knowledge of SharePoint;
  • Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication;
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;
  • Skill in working with both co-workers and management to effectively accomplish unit goals;
  • Skills in working with operating systems, software, hardware, peripherals, and office equipment associated with support and troubleshooting;

  • Ability to install, diagnose, configure and trouble- MS Windows operating systems;
  • Ability to integrate newly developed technologies into the existing environment;
  • Ability to install, configure and troubleshoot complex microcomputer hardware and peripheral problems;
  • Ability to participate in design and review of technical specifications for the procurement of technology systems hardware and software;
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision;
  • Ability to work as a member of a team;
  • Ability to analyze requirements, and organize the team and other resources to meet support needs in a timely fashion;
  • Ability to produce technical documentation;
  • Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;
  • Ability to perform work in accordance with TPWD safety program.

Additional Information:


  • Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday;
  • Required to adjust to changing schedules;
  • Required to work overtime including, weekends and holidays to install hardware, software or resolve problems as necessary;
  • Required to respond to emergency and on call situations;
  • Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;
  • May be required to operate a State vehicle;
  • Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;
  • Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
