Job Description:

Responsible for the effective development and implementation of programs to ensure that all products and services meet minimum organization standards and end-user requirements.

Ensures adequate product testing prior to implementation. Ensures adequate facility prerequisite program to support the product. Administers problem management process including monitoring and reporting on problem resolution.

Manage the Testing & Product Quality sub-team of professionals that include Testing Specification Analysts, Associate Testing Specification Analysts, Product Quality Analysts, and Product Quality Technicians.

Ensure timely delivery of all testing protocols for new product development and change request projects.

Work cross-functionally with other Innovation & Quality sub-teams, GFSS Supplier Operations, and Exclusive Brands procurement team to coordinate the development and launch of multiple products (projects) simultaneously.

Uphold the quality, integrity, and accuracy of existing Exclusive Brands products by managing and maintaining accurate product data throughout the product lifecycle (inception to discontinuation) using numerous supporting documents and software solutions. This includes product change requests from vendors and internal issue discovery originating from WFM team members.

Coordinate with adjacent sub-teams to provide the most efficient means to an end. Orchestrate multiple project activities and project timelines; Lead continuous improvement, issue resolution, and collaborative problem solving.


  • Works with the Innovation & Quality Coordinator and other Team Leaders on short and long term strategy and harmonization of processes/procedures

  • Acts as the primary technical resource for all testing and product quality efforts; Resolves all technical issues that impede the progression of testing protocol review and approval process

  • Responsible for supporting and executing all research requests and projects with the legal team

  • Drives efficiency and continuous improvement of the Testing and product quality functions for EB

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive product quality program for Exclusive Brands that includes regular reporting and tracking of products and vendor/supplier quality criteria

  • Drives productivity of team members by delegating and coordinating all sub-team activities as necessary

  • Evaluates skills and performance of Team Members and makes appropriate recommendations; Performs regular one on ones with team members and job dialogues as needed

  • Hires new team members as appropriate to meet business needs

  • Develops departmental strategies and tactics to meet business goals

  • Directs efforts to deliver accurate Testing specifications for the NPD and change request pipeline; meeting standardized turn-around time and throughput

  • Assures projects are adequately resourced and results are accurate and reliable

  • Seeks out and leverages new, enabling technologies from internal and external resources

  • Operates collaboratively across various functions within the organization and with outside partners

  • Develops complex processes to enhance business efficiency and reduce project turnaround times

  • Manages tracking and reporting function of the project pipeline from concept to protocol approval

  • Continuous evaluation and improvement of existing processes and procedures

  • Responsible for the training and development of technical staff which includes Testing Specification Analysts, Associate Testing Specification Analysts, Product Quality Analysts, and Product Quality Technicians.

  • Reports results and provides advice to appropriate departments during protocol development

  • Establishes product controls and procedures to insure that newly developed products meet the customer needs as well as meet established company and regulatory standards (USDA and FDA)

  • Determination and implementation of new software applications for project management and collaboration


  • 5 years’ experience within the food and consumer packaged goods industry

  • 2 years’ experience managing individuals and teams

  • Strong hands-on analytical skills/techniques

  • Possesses strong teamwork and interpersonal skills to facilitate interaction with cross-functional team members such as Procurement, QA, and Regulatory, and outside vendors and consultants

  • Proficient in team building to ensure employees will work well together

  • Must be detail oriented and extremely organized

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and deliver against rapid development timelines

  • Knowledge of food labeling and FDA/USDA regulations

  • Must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to excel in a team setting

  • Computer proficiency and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team. Ability to make decisions or judgments and know when to seek subject matter expert opinion. Ability to work effectively with little or no direct supervision

  • Ability to have fun and enable others to have fun while achieving results

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field

  • Strong project management skills

  • Ability to develop Testing and quality assurance strategies for Exclusive Brands

  • Sensory evaluation experience and skills

  • Experience working in consumer packaged goods industry; preferably with natural and organic foods

  • Knowledge of food safety and food processing environments

  • General understanding of product development and commercialization

  • Familiarity of retailer web based specification systems would be ideal
