Job Description

Job Summary:

The Vascular Sono Technologist I performs vascular diagnostic procedures to detect peripheral vascular disease or obstructions.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates patient for presense of perppheral vascular disease by selecting most effectcive procedures within regulator and compliance guidelines.

  • Performs appropriate diagnostic procedures, records patient test results and reports results to physician.

  • Monitor patient's comfort and safety during tests, alerting physicians to abnormalities or changes in patient responses.

  • Maintain adequate supplies and monitor/verify all equipment is in proper working condition; report deficiencies or failures.

  • Performs procedural quality assurance. Ensures any individual present within procedure performance area observes safety procedures. Assesses patient and family need for education and assistance specific to departmental procedure and coordinates service.

  • Monitors protocols and recommends updates or refinements as warranted. Assists with staff development, orientation to departmental procedure, training and education. Employs critical thinking skills to ensure client service, patient safety and quality images.

  • Determines need for equipment maintenance and reports malfunctions. Charges examinations, supplies and completes documentation promptly and properly Reviews procedural charges and coding, recommending adjustments as protocols change or new procedures are added.

  • Performs other duties as assigned. May be required to perform other sonography or imaging studies in addition to Vascular component. May be required to work additional site / locations. May be required to be "on call" and return for emergency call-back.

Qualifications

Licenses/Certifications/Registration:

  • Required Credential(s):

  • Certified Basic BLS Provider specializing in Basic Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

  • Registered Radiology Technician specializing in Sonography credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) .

Education & Experience:

  • HS or Equivalent is required upon hire or job transfer date

  • Graduation from a CAAHP accredited program in Sonography is preferred

  • Degree in Sonography or Imaging is preferred

  • Once in position, must actively perform vascular sonography as part of routine job duties.

  • Registry alone does not qualify for role.
