Job Summary/Basic Function

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Provides academic and clinical instruction within the Dishman Department of Nursing. Plans, coordinates, and conducts on-campus and online classroom, and clinical experiences for students. Participates in scholarly and academic activities appropriate to the Assistant Professor rank. Reports to the Director of Undergraduate Nursing Studies, and/or Director of Graduate Nursing Studies, on curriculum and course issues (e.g., students, clinical), and reports to the Department Chair on all other issues (e.g., personnel, assignments).

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: (e=ESSENTIAL) E1. Maintains academic standards as established by the department, college, and university. E2. Teaches students in the clinical, laboratory and on-campus and online classroom settings. E3. Assumes responsibility for the planning and organization of courses to which assigned. E4. Provides academic advising/counseling to assigned students. E5. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of departmental, program, course, and student activities. E6. Plans professional development activities for self such as continuing education offerings, workshops, professional meetings, etc. E7. Participates in program, department, college and university committees and in other activities associated with professional status. E8. Maintains membership in and participates in activities of professional associations. E9. Incorporates new knowledge and techniques in clinical, classroom, and laboratory teaching. E10. Displays scholarly orientation to the assumption of the responsibilities of a university faculty member: a. Utilizes teaching-learning principles appropriately; b. Serves as a knowledgeable resources person to colleagues, students, and community; c. Contributes to the generation of research findings in nursing and nursing education; d. Shares professional expertise beyond the local level; e. Assists in developing reports required for the operation of the department.

Minimum Qualifications


Experience: Educational experience in a nationally accredited nursing program. Experience in clinical nursing.

Education: Doctorate in Nursing (preferred), or doctorate in related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1. Demonstrated leadership skills related to coordination of teaching activities. 2. Effective verbal/written communication skills. 3. Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum and instructional design and implementation. 4. Demonstrated achievement in scholarly and research activities. 5. Awareness of current issues/trends in nursing and higher education. 6. Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.

Licensure: Unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Texas.
