PRN - Overnight Call

Methodist Boerne Emergency Center, a free-standing emergency department of Methodist Hospital, offers a unique healthcare model, using sophisticated telecommunications technologies to link the emergency center to all the resources of Methodist Healthcare hospitals and physicians in San Antonio, providing timely urgent care with the depth of resources of an acute care hospital. Medical services are offered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The facility includes 15 treatment rooms providing a full range of services, including radiology, telemetry and a full service laboratory. Methodist Boerne Emergency Center offers the benefits of immediate intervention for serious emergencies when treatment time is critical.

General Statement of Duties:

The Ultrasound Technologist (sonographer) performs diagnostic procedures utilizing a background in anatomy, physiology, physics and instrumentation to provide technical information to aid the physician. The sonographer will demonstrate and maintain technical skills needed to perform ultrasound procedures on the population(s) served by the department and may include abdominal, OB/GYN, venous Doppler, small parts, pediatrics (where applicable) and invasive exams. In addition, the sonographer will maintain department supplies and equipment. He/she participates in the quality control of the ultrasound department.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Maintains skills and understanding of innovation in techniques and equipment in medical sonography for procedures performed.

  2. Assists physicians in performing ultrasound-guided procedures.

  3. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to the population(s) served by the department.

  4. Responsible for the proper use of the Radiology Computer System (scheduling exams, patient tracking, film tracking, proper completion of exams, capture charges).

  5. Follows safety policies and procedures applicable to the job, recognizes impending crisis situations and institutes measures (such as adjusting priorities) to prevent further complications.

  6. Understands and follows infection control/universal precautions in the performance of all job tasks. Maintains order and cleanliness. Always practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination.

Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:

Education: ONE of the following:

  1. New Hires as of October 1, 2011:

A. Successful completion of training program in either:

  1. Ultrasonography

  2. Radiologic Technology

  3. Vascular Technology

B. Associates of Science or higher degree

  1. Current employees:

A. Successful completion of training program in either:

  1. Ultrasonography

  2. Radiologic Technology

  3. Vascular Technology

  4. Medical Assisting

B. Associates degree or higher degree

  1. Experience: none required

  2. Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service

line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).

  1. Preferred:

Two (2) years experience as a fulltime ultrasound technologist in a hospital or diagnostic imaging clinic setting preferred.

Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required:

Must have and maintain ONE of the following within the timeframes below:

A. American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)

i. RDMS- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

ii. RDCS- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer

iii. RVT- Registered Vascular Technologist

iv. BR- Registered Diagnostic Breast Sonographer – only if obtained prior to 6/30/2010

B. American Registry of Radiologic Technologist ARRT (S)

C. American Registry of Radiologic Technologist ARRT (VS)

D. Cardiovascular Credentialing International (RVS)

E. American Registry of Radiologic Technologist ARRT (BS) only if obtained prior to 6/30/2010

New Hires with experience: Must have within 6 months of hire date.

New Hires and New Grads- (graduated in the last 12 months): Must have within 18 months of hire date.

Current employees of Methodist Hospital: Must obtain registry/certification

by July 1, 2012.

Current employees of Methodist Specialty & Transplant, Metropolitan

Methodist, Northeast Methodist, Methodist Texsan, Methodist Stone Oak or

Methodist Ambulatory Surgery Hospitals: Must obtain registry by October 1, 2012.
