The Facts

The charming town of Borger prides itself on being a family friendly community. Home to just over 15,000 people the town has plenty to offer! With opportunities to fish, hike, scuba dive or head out to the beautiful Lake Meredith, not to mention being only 40 minutes away from Amarillo! Our Borger plant produces both ammonia and urea and as of 2015 is currently undergoing an expansion. With 90 employee positions and more being brought in for the expansion our Borger facility has great opportunities!

Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, the Maintenance Mechanic – Pipefitter/Welder will be responsible for general evaluation, selection, installation, maintenance and repair of equipment assets at BNO in a safe efficient manner.

Key Tasks:

  • Ensuring safe and efficient work practices, i.e. housekeeping, tool care, permitting, WHAT cards and productivity.

  • Following and adhering to all safety policies, procedures, performing JTO’s, participating by entering near misses, reporting incidents and attending safety meetings as required.

  • Performing daily maintenance by welding, cutting, reading drawings, layout bolting and maintaining stationary equipment.

  • Performing daily and routine preventative maintenance (PMs) as required.

  • Performing Pipe Fitter Welding work including major overhauls of equipment.

  • Documenting repairs and reliability information on equipment.

  • Following written procedures and completing detailed checklist.

  • Working closely with contractors, vendors and internal departments to develop PM standards on equipment.

  • Attending and completing required training internally and externally specific to job skills as required.

  • Operate mobile equipment as required.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to excel in a team environment.

  • Works with little supervision and must be a self-starter.

  • Troubleshooting and analytical ability.


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Possess basic computer skills.

  • Minimum 5-10 years’ on-the-job experience as a Pipe Fitter Welder mechanic.

  • Specific working knowledge of all types of welding, cutting, blueprint reading, layout and bolting.

  • High level of skill in the use of all types of welding techniques and ASME welding standards (P1-P1, P8-P8).

  • Proficient in welding equipment use and best practices.

  • Rigging certification, master rigger a plus.

  • Capable of reading a detailed drawing, drawing specifications, detailed interpretation and performing work following drawings.

Qualifications of the position that would be a plus:

  • SAP experience.

  • Experience in process plant operations.

  • Ability to operate heavy equipment, including forklifts, man lifts, backhoes, graders, cranes, etc.

  • Understanding of lubrication analysis.

  • Basic welding certification.
