Valley Regional Medical Center is a 214 Licensed Bed Facility with over 200 physicians representing over 25 specialties; Valley Regional Medical Center is a leader in a vast array of high quality inpatient and outpatient programs and services, including: * 24 Hour Level III Trauma Emergency Department * Cardiology * Open Heart Surgery * Neurosurgery * Endoscopy * Imaging * Women’s Services * Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Valley Regional is currently looking for a Charge Nurse–Emergency Dept.

The Charge Nurse performs direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act. Utilizes therapeutic communication in daily practice. Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment. Identifies nursing problems as they relate to the individual needs of the patient. Plans individualized patient care utilizing an interdisciplinary approach. Participates in performance improvement activities. Provides care and coordinates participation that fosters the goals of the hospital’s mission and vision statement. Charge Nurses are responsible for day-to-day activities to ensure the delivery of quality patient care in a therapeutic environment. Make staff assignments based on patient need and the skill of the staff. Serve as role models and clinical resource for the staff. Respond in a timely manner to requests for information or follow-up with physician, staff or patient issues.


  1. Accurately assesses patient acuity and assigns appropriate triage level.

  2. Provides clinical direction to staff and evaluates the level of care provided by nursing staff.

  3. Collaborates with physicians to provide appropriate plan of care.

  4. Develops and maintains effective communication with staff, physicians, EMS patients /families.

  5. Demonstrates appropriate delegation of task & duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members.

  6. Assures completion of department checklist and ensures ER daily assignments are done.

  7. Demonstrates awareness of hospital and departmental policies and procedures; assures compliance with and uses these as a basis for decision making for both clinical and management issues.

  8. Performs documentation duties on unit and in patient’s medical record which is timely accurate and concise.

  9. Performs efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols informing appropriate personnel and documenting events.

  10. Actively participates in solving problems on the unit to improve process issues as well as patient flow.

  11. Supports departmental and hospital performance improvement initiatives.

  12. Makes staff assignments based on patient acuity and staff skill levels.

  13. Serves as a resource for the staff.

  14. Responds timely to request for information or follow up with physician, staff or patient issues.

  15. Assists as needed with department audit processes.

· Graduate of an AccreditedSchoolof Nursing · BSN recommended · Current TX RN licensure · BCLS required · ACLS required · PALS required · TNCC required · ENPC Recommended within 1 year of hire
