University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Assistant Professor in Coastal and Marine Ecosystems Services Valuation in Brownsville, Texas

Scope of Job

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) School of Earth, Environmental and Marine Sciences is seeking a broadly trained ecosystem valuation researcher with interest in the utilitarian or non-utilitarian approaches to the valuation of ecosystem function, products, and services and their use in decision-making processes and policy development. Areas of specialization may include but are not limited to natural resource damage assessment, cost-benefit analyses of environmental restoration, applied policy research, and resilience of agricultural, coastal, marine or urban ecosystems. The successful candidate will develop an integrative research agenda for the Lower Rio Grande delta region of South Texas and northeast Mexico and teach advanced undergraduate and graduate courses, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in the School. This is a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to start in fall 2017.

Minimum Qualifications

The minimum requirement is a Ph.D. from an accredited university in a resource valuation related science discipline.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

Applicants should have established, vigorous research programs in a relevant field and experience in securing nationally competitive external research funding. Highly qualified applicants with strong research portfolios can qualify for significant supplemental startup equipment funds through the UTRGV Science and Technology Acquisition and Retention (STAR) funds.

Additional Information

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code ยง51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
