About the Position:

This recruitment is for a Natural Resources Specialist (Ranger) GS-05/07/09 developmental position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Ft. Worth District, Operations Division, Three Rivers Regional Office in Clifton, Texas.

Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army Recent Graduates Program. Click herefor more information on Pathways program participation. After Program completion, Department of the Army Recent Graduates MAY be converted to a permanent position or to a term position (a project-based term of employment lasting between one and four years).

To be eligible for conversion to a permanent or term position, Recent Graduates must:

  • Successfully completed at least 1-year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the Program.
  • EXCEPTION: Positions in the Instructional Systems (GS-1750) series and all occupations covered by the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) require a 24-month appointment period in order to complete the training and/or certification requirements specific to each occupation prior to conversion.
  • Demonstrate successful job performance.
  • Meet the Office of Personnel Management's qualifications for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted

Positions are open to:

  • Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution.
  • Preference eligible veterans who were precluded from applying due to their military service obligation begin their two-year eligibility period upon release or discharge from active duty. Eligibility for these veterans cannot exceed six years after degree or certificate completion.

At the full performance grade level you will serve as a Natural Resources Specialist (Park Ranger) for a lake project office. At the lower grade levels you will be performing duties under close supervision. You will be involved in all aspects of project operations including natural resources, recreation, and dam safety. You will participate in the development of various planning documents to including Master Plans and Operational Management Plans for management of natural resources. You will coordinate long and short-range planning and execution of all activities related to one or more of the following:

  • Recreation and park administration
  • Shoreline management and stabilization
  • Fisheries and wildlife management
  • Pest control
  • Soil and water conservation
  • Historic property management and protection
  • Visitor assistance, public safety and education

  • Business Travel Conditions (TDY) up to 5%

Qualification Requirement: For the GS-05, you are qualified if you meet one of the following: A bachelor's or equivalent degree or have completed four years of college education leading to such a degree in Natural Resources to include biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR A combination of education and experience - Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus an appropriate combination of education and experience generally requires that an applicant possess a core of educational credit, such as described in paragraph above, plus additional education and/or experience. The number of semester hours required to constitute a major field of study is the amount specified by the college or university attended. If this number cannot be obtained, 24 semester hours will be considered as equivalent to a major field of study. Experience is defined as performing one or more of the following: 1) providing project information to the visiting public through brochures, bulletin boards, news releases, telephone calls, or other written and oral correspondence (or equivalent experience); 2) patrolling project lands and waters to prevent unauthorized use; or 3) interacting with the public in high stress, emotional, and potentially volatile situations.
