The Congenital Therapies Consultant achieves sales revenue targets and grows market share for a specified geography by promoting, selling and servicing Medtronic Melody and related congenital products, post approval, while ensuring safe adoption and growth. Congential Therapies Consultant develops and implements strategies for market development. The Congenital Therapies Consultant practices good territory management with strong organization, administration and expense planning and control. The Congenital Therapies Consultant isa partner and resource to the CVG field organization and to Heart Valve Therapies field organization, HVT cross functional teams, including Medical Education, Marketing, Research, and Development.


1.Territory Management and Account Development

  • Providequality support to help sites achieve procedural success and for the safegrowth of Melody, related products and additional congenital products asnecessary

  • Develop and execute strategies and plans toachieve/exceed sales quota for commercial cases. Maintain and expandexisting business and develop new business opportunities.

  • Serveas trusted technical expert for TPVR procedure and products. Provide technical support for TPVR implantingcenters, including “scrubbing in” to assist with valve loading and providingtechnical case support consistent with the instructions for use. Educatesites on proper indications for TPVR procedures.

  • Probe to understand and confirmcustomer’s needs, handle objections and gain commitment. Develop and implement strategies tocounter competitor messaging.

  • Educatecustomers to ensure that products are understood and used effectively.

  • Represent company at industryconferences and maximize potential by targeting specific customers to gainsales leads, and pursue opportunities to promote the company’s product portfolio.

  • Knowledgeof Melody and other Medtronic TPVR product IFUs for safe and effective useof devices.

  • Developand maintain comprehensive clinical and technical product knowledge. Understands current published TPVR andrelevant literature. Recognize andunderstand competitive products, industry trends, and CBT/CVGportfolio. Liaison with RD fortechnology improvements and next generation needs.

2.Technical and Clinical Support

  • Provide quality technicalsupport to help sites achieve procedural success.

  • Provide technical support toMedtronic employees and implanting teams for Melody implant procedures inaccordance with Medtronic guidance.

  • Provide technical leadershipfor TPVR device procedures. Educateimplanting teams on proper indications for TPVR procedures. Provide support on questions regardingdevice suitability with measuring ability and CT reconstructionexpertise. Provide comprehensive technicalsupport including knowledge of imaging modalities (echo/angiography/CT),EKG, blood pressure, wave forms, and ancillary procedural solutions.

  • Knowledgeof Clinical trial protocols, and CoreValve and other Medtronic TPVRproduct IFUs for safe and effective use of devices.

  • Developand maintain comprehensive clinical and technical product knowledge. Understands current published TPVR andrelevant literature. Recognize andunderstand competitive products, industry trends, and CBT/CVGportfolio. Liaison with RD fortechnology improvements and next generation needs.Par

  • Partnerwith Congential Therapies TDS team for clinical support, education andcase coverage.

3.Customer Service

  • Ensuremaximum coverage of all accounts within territory geographic areas tomaintain optimum level of exposure and effective time management. Assist with scheduling of cases andproper customer support.

·Participate in physician training and case observations when necessary.

  • Participatesin any other planned customer education meetings and society conventions.

  • Respond tocustomer requests and resolve complaints in a prompt and effective mannerto include proper device complaint reporting.

  • Maintain highstandards of personal presentation and promote a professional personal andcompany image.

  • Assist siteswith identifying routine implant days and proper case scheduling.

4.Training, Education and Professional Development

·Develop and maintain comprehensive clinical and technical product knowledge.

·Recognize and understand competitive products, features, strengths in relation to the company’s products.

·Participate in product and skills development programs, managing own self development.

·Resource for RD for Melody improvements and next generation needs.

·Assists in training new hires to Medtronic TPVR team.

·Helps drive and maintain quality initiatives and global best practice initiatives.

5.Administrative Responsibilities

  • Developand maintain accurate account and territory records

  • Responsiblefor inventory at sites to include shipments, usage and return of product.

  • Responsiblefor forecasting implants at sites and obtaining billing PO’s for eachcase.

  • Submitsaccurate and timely expense reports.

  • Reportdevice complaints to proper departments within quality assurance withinMedtronic.

  • Schedulestravel arrangements to ensure multiple objectives are accomplished.

  • Supports heartteams with appropriate products, clinical literature and pre case planningstrategy,

  • Maintainhospital eligibility/access with various vendor credentialing services.

  • Controlexpenses and adhere to company policies and procedures.


  • Identify,establish and maintain productive working relationships with key decisionmakers, customers and their staff, administrative staff, etc.

  • Maintainsa high level of communication with appropriate CVG sales and leadershipwithin assigned geography.

  • Planand implement effective sales/product presentations to customers.

  • Developand maintain productive working relationships within the company to ensuremaximum sales support and maintain a high level of customer service.

  • Contributeto the development of a strong team effort.

  • Communicatemarket intelligence/competitor activity promptly, including potentialsales leads, and information regarding product price or account activityto National Pulmonic Sales Director and Clinical or other appropriatecompany personnel

  • Ensurea professional standard of written and verbal communication at all times.



  • Bachelor’sDegree

  • 3+year’s sales experience in a hospital environment; selling interventionalcardiology or surgical products


  • Demonstratedsuccess in previous sales role; indicating a high level of salesperformance, influence and selling skills.

  • Exceptionalbusiness and clinical acumen with prior experience leading a sophisticatedcardiac or endovascular procedure.

  • Exceptionalunderstanding of cardiac and vascular anatomy, physiology, and pathology.

  • Interventionalcardiac or vascular experience (wires, balloons, catheters, stents). Endovascular--specifically EndovascularAneurysm Repair (EVAR) and Thoracic Endovascular Aneurysm Repair(TEVAR)—or Cardiac surgery, Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement (SAVR)experience preferred.

  • Experienceselling to Pediatric Interventional Cardiologist and or Pediatric CardiacSurgeons

  • Strong,proven medical device sales track record with documented growth andachievements.

  • Previousexperience communicating product’s market advantages to physicians andhospital administration.

  • Experiencemanaging multiple accounts.

  • Successfulexperience launching a new device.

  • Marketdevelopment experience.

  • Experiencecalling on C-Suite customers.

  • Priorexperience teaching and educating medical personnel, peers and technicalsupport personnel.

  • Imaginginterpretation experience (TTE or Trans Esophageal Echocardiography (TEE),CT, Angiograms). Computerproficiency and ability to perform CT reconstruction with CT programs.

  • Demonstratedsuccess building strong relationships with key therapy users and employeesacross organizational level.

  • Abilityto effectively organize and plan travel schedule with frequent last minuterequests.

  • Abilityto travel with overnight stay up to 50 - 75% of the time (geographyvariability).

  • Previouspeer and physician education experience.

  • Excellentinfluencing and consulting skills.

  • Excellentinterpersonal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to maketimely and sound decisions.

  • Candidateswith 5+ year’s sales experience in a hospital environment; selling interventionalcardiology or surgical products may be considered at the Senior level, candidates with 10+ year’s salesexperience in a hospital environment; selling interventional cardiology orsurgical products may beconsidered at the Principal level.

·Candidates with 10+years medical industry sales experience (selling physician preference products) in hospital environment with 8 years selling tointerventional cardiology, interventional radiology and/or Vascular surgery may be considered at the Principal TC level
