Provides skilled work required to safely and reliably operate, service, clean, and protect all systems, heavy stationary equipment and all ancillary systems, components and hardware in a central power plant, producing and distributing steam, chill water, compressed air and grey water to a college campus.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs plant operations, equipment operations, service and preventative maintenance work as assigned primarily within the Thermal Plant.
Monitors and logs information from meters, gages, equipment controls, valve conditions, switch settings, and the energy management and control systems in accordance with assigned procedures.
Performs assigned chemical tests of various water sources, documents results, and makes adjustments in accordance with assigned procedures.
Engages customers that call in after-hours service requests in a professional manner.
Monitors entire plant and energy management control system for issues and changed conditions and initiates corrective actions in accordance with assigned procedures.
Actively trains on plant operations on a regular basis for professional development.
Handles 40-60 pound bags of salt for storage and replenishment of salt levels in brine tanks.
Provide functional/operational support to campus as essential personnel during times of emergency, catastrophe, inclement weather, etc…
Assists other departments in other duties and locations as assigned.
Experience and Requirements
Must be career-oriented and dedicated to plant operations and our team.
Able to read and understand operations and maintenance manuals and documents, and follow procedures contained therein to accomplish work as assigned.
Pays special attention to detail and safety.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Able to multi-task.
While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to climb ladders, ramps and stairs; and to walk in cramped spaces in unusual postures moving over, around and under stationary obstructions.
Must be able to distinguish differences in sounds or noises to respond to changed conditions and potential or actual problems.
Must be flexible in schedule to cover any shift periodically.
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Technical/vocational education and training in operations and maintenance of boilers, chillers, turbines, generators or control systems is desired.
