VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS) is the second largest and most complex VA system in the nation, comprised of the Dallas VA Medical Center, Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham, Fort Worth Outpatient Clinic and Tyler VA Primary Care Clinic. VANTHCS includes five Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) locations as well as an annex clinic located three miles from Dallas VAMC. A Fisher House is located on campus at Dallas VAMC. VANTHCS is an integrated health care system with approximately 5,000 employees and over 1,600 volunteers and clinical trainees. Through these four facilities and relationships with other agencies, VANTHCS offers health care services to approximately 500,000 veterans.

Dallas VA Medical Center is the corporate headquarters for VANTHCS and serves as the tertiary referral center. Through its partnership with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, it also has emerged as a major teaching and medical research center. The Research Program operates $8.7 million in grants. Primary care and multi-specialty outpatient clinics are also provided, making VANTHCS the first in bed days of care, the second in unique Veterans served, and the second in outpatient visits. The Organizational Location of the Position is Social Work Service, VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS), Dallas, TX.

The Community Nursing Home (CNH) Program Assistant will provide administrative support to the CNH Program and personnel within the program. The assistant maintains, tracks, and records data on the program census; develops, analyzes, and processes therapy and excessive medication requests, and submits them to the designated staff for approval. The assistant maintains data related to VA contracted facilities. Creates, develops, and maintains action plans for contracted community nursing homes; and develops, analyzes, and evaluates the program expenditure data. The Assistant updates local SharePoint related to the program and National websites as needed. He/she assists in the analysis, evaluation, and preparation of all program reports; assists in tracking internal reviews, action items, quality measures, and the efficiency of the CNH Program. Incumbent investigates, gathers, and analyzes data on facilities, staff, and veterans enrolled in the programs. Analyzes the documentation and reporting systems, and plans strategies to initiate changes. Examines program operations systems, identifies problem areas, determines actions necessary to resolve, and recommends resolutions. The incumbent provides a complete range of program support which includes customer service and coordination, data analysis and interpretation, graphing, specialized CNH Program projects, performance measures, reports, and compiles data to meet the goals and program guidelines. He/she coordinates and creates correspondence for the CNH program and assists in the daily operation of the program.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-6) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of qualifying experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience that involved investigating, gathering, and analyzing data on facilities, staff, and veterans enrolled in the programs; coordinating and creating correspondence for the CNH program and assists in the daily operation of the program.

There is no education substitution for the GS-7 level.

Physical Demands: The work requires some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending, filing, and the lifting and/or carrying of light items such as files and office supplies. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to perform the work. The incumbent is required to answer numerous personal/telephonic inquiries and must have adequate eyesight and hand 7 dexterity to allow for reading and operating a computer and other automated office equipment.

Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6 level. The grade must have been held in the Federal service but may have been in any occupation.
