University of Texas at Dallas Research Scientist II in Dallas, Texas

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Research Core Facilities and under technical direction of the Genome Center Advisory Board, the newly established UT Dallas Genome Center (GC) is seeking a full time research scientist. Working closely with the Faculty directors, the Research Scientist will develop and manage the next generation sequencing methods and services, maintain a high level of quality for services that the GC will offer. The Research Scientist will serve as an expert consultant to the users of the next generation GC regarding the technical details of the high throughput sequencing experiments and advise on the experimental design of such experiments.

Minimum Education and Experience

A minimum of a PhD in a field directly related to research and a minimum of two years of experience/expertise as noted below; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Doctorate in Biological Science, Genetics, Biochemistry, or Molecular Biology. One to three years relevant hands-on demonstration of experimental/wet-lab activities involving next-generation sequencing and methodologies in academia (Ph.D. Thesis) or industry

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Development, testing, validation, implementation and optimization of:

  • Next generation sequencing technologies and methodologies

  • Protocols for library preparations and sequencing methods Perform QC quality control analysis, engage in design of experiments, prepare samples, perform sequencing and analyze data. Contribute to scientific research papers, grant applications and reports. Organize workshops for the user base and support involvement of UTD students with the core.

Basic knowledge of: Equipment: Bioanalyzer, Qubit (Fluorometer), Sonicators, PipinPrep size selection system, Realtime polymerase chain reaction (PCR) instrument, Fluidigm C1 Prep system, NextSeq500 Molecular techniques: Realtime quantitative PCR, Quantitation of nucleic acids, Sequencing library preparation for Illumina platform, sequencing data analysis.
