Supervisor of First Mortgage Operations - First Mortgage Operations Supervisor - First Mortgage Operations

We have an immediate opening for a full time Supervisor, First Mortgage Operations position in our Alexandria, Virginia location. Under the general supervision of the Manager, Mortgage Operations, the incumbent oversees the daily activities of the 1st Trust Operations section of the Mortgage Operations department ensuring the timely and accurate completion of section responsibilities within the established guidelines and ensuring high quality member service. The incumbent performs the duties of an experienced processor and provides supervisory oversight and support to the 1st Trust mortgage staff. In addition, the incumbent underwrites 1st mortgages in accordance with policies set forth by the Board of Directors and in compliance with federal, state and NCUA regulations and Fannie Mae, ensuring sufficiency of collateral and the assurance that no legal impediments exist. Incumbents of this position acts as a mortgage loan originator (MLO) as defined in the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (S.A.F.E. Act).   • Monitors loans in process to determine any deviation from standard processing time and to take appropriate actions including notifying manager for alternatives to ensure members receive timely service

  • Manages workload distribution and monitors progress of loan volume and projects to ensure goals are met

  • Assists with writing and administering staff performance appraisals and coordinates the training and development of each employee, ensuring performance goals are established for each and progress monitored regularly

  • Oversees closer activity and provides feedback on file flow and issues on closed loans

  • Provides input to the Manager and Assistant Manager in areas of staffing and disciplinary actions

  • Oversees quality assurance of staff work and reports findings monthly to Assistant Manager and Manager of Mortgage Operations

  • Prepares and/or sends training flashes in regards to changes, updates, systems enhancements, etc., in regards to 1st mortgage consulting, processing, closing and post closing

  • Acts as a liaison with settlement vendors to ensure timely completion and accuracy of documentation and helps resolve any issues between processors and vendors.

  • Serves as backup to the 1st mortgage Underwriter. Under limited supervision, the incumbent approves, pends, or declines loan applications within delegated authority while adhering to Federal regulations, PenFed standards, policies and procedures and Fannie Mae underwriting. Refers loans outside of their authority level to Assistant Manager or Manager with recommendations and justifications, when necessary

  • Completes a thorough analysis of the loan file to determine credit worthiness and collateral value

  • Evaluates the geographic area, the type, ownership, and occupancy of the residence and assures that property adjustments to loan terms, rate or amount, if any, are made before final approval

  • Determines that valid liens in the proper recording position can be obtained by credit bureau and the title review. Ensures that corrective action is taken when factors that weakens PENFED’s collateral position are identified

  • Interprets policies and guideline for 1st mortgage staff and other PenFed employees requiring guidance

  • Follows up with 1st mortgage processors when documentation is not accurate due to processor errors and/or actions

  • Counsels and provides training and guidance to less experienced staff. Assists and cross trains in other positions as required

  • Serves as support to PENFED operations employees in answering inquiries and providing information on mortgage loan programs

  • Participates in the development of policy changes, program implementation and procedural improvements

  • Ensures proper training is given to assigned staff on new software programs and PenEed products

  • Ensures that all procedural updates and/or changes are properly distributed to staff

  • Works a processor pipeline consisting of employee loans or complicated loans and rushes as needed by the Assistant Manager and Manager of Mortgage Operations

  • Maintains contact with members throughout the processing period, assisting them with any questions and notifying them of any additional information required

  • Maintains a thorough working knowledge of PENFED 1st mortgage loan products and procedures. Makes appropriate decisions regarding the resolution of complex member account problems

  • Informs Manager and Assistant Manager of department, accomplishments, problems, and exceptions

  • Prepares statistical reports relating to branch operations

  • Work on projects assigned by the Manager and Assistant Manager

  • Recommends and implements new ideas and ensures thorough research and involvement from all appropriate areas of the credit union

  • Baccalaureate degree in related field or combination of education and experience in real estate lending that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfactorily perform the essential job functions

  • Three years related work experience in lending field required

  • Knowledge of mortgage origination, processing, closing and post closing process required

  • Lending experience in real estate preferred

  • Knowledge of PenFed operations, policies and procedures preferred

  • Strong oral and written communication skills required
