Job Summary

The University of Texas at Dallas has a position for a mid-level Systems Engineer to support Storage and Virtualization services within the Office of Information Technology. This person will join an experienced team that manages, maintains and enhances the University’s Enterprise Storage and Virtualization services in a 24×7 mission critical environment. This job would provide deployment and support services using VMWare on Dell hardware. The position will also support Dell Compellent and EMC storage platforms as well as Avamar/Data Domain backup infrastructure. The candidate needs to be a highly motivated self-starter with a desire to enter or continue a career path in enterprise infrastructure. The candidate needs to have a broad understanding of storage and backup concepts and solutions as well as a virtualization background. The person would have responsibilities for supporting backups and the provisioning, monitoring and maintaining storage along with the virtualization environment. The Job also includes the installation and maintenance of enterprise hardware including servers, storage and related devices.

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years related experience.

  • Experience managing VMWare VSphere platform

  • Dell and EMC SAN management experience

  • A demonstrated understanding of applied enterprise computing technology

  • Experience in a rapid paced, time sensitive, high-quality environment

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Educational Requirements

  • No degree – 5 years’ experience

  • Associates’ degree – 3 years’ experience

  • Bachelor’s degree – 2 years’ experience

  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience will be considered.

  • Experience with backup administration

  • Experience with Storage networking configuration and maintenance

  • Configuration and management experience with server virtualization

  • Proficient with Windows and/or Linux operating systems

  • Experience with high availability and disaster recovery solutions

  • Excellent professionalism, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to participate in off-hours support on a rotating schedule

  • Creative problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Ability to understand new technologies quickly

  • Detail oriented and attentive to the processes/procedures

  • Deploying, managing and maintaining virtual servers

  • Provision monitor and maintain storage

  • Managing and maintaining enterprise backup environment

  • Must be able to troubleshoot problems and identify when to ask for assistance
