The incumbent is the designated agent cashier of the North Texas VA Healthcare Systems at the Dallas Campus, and is responsible for the performance of all duties relating to advance, payment and accountability of funds entrusted to his/her care.
· Researches records/files in multiple automated databases (the bene-travel tool, FMS or the RSD reports spreadsheet) for missing information, on status of payments and payment dates, and follows up with Medical Administration Service as necessary.
· Provides information and/or explanation on procedures, status, requests and/or gathers information from Fiscal Service Section or other Services (Travel Section, MAS, etc.)
· Respond to customer inquiries, either orally or in writing. Resolves problems and explains regulatory requirements.
· Receive payments and checks from a variety of sources for employees and veterans.
· Examine documents.
· Deposit funds into HCS organizations and Services', Veterans', patients' and/or employees' account.
· Prepares and codes form identifying special accounts such as patient funds, donations, etc.
· Prepares deposit form using automated system.
· Bundle checks for mailing to bank.
· Returns/sends deposits/checks received in error to Accounting.
· Verifies the Veterans' identity prior to making payments.
· Processes checks sent here; codes into computerized system(s).
· Process medical payments.
· Returns Treasury checks issued in error to Austin.
· Forward any checks that came to the station in error i.e. ChampVA or CPAC payments.
· Processes payments in accordance with regulations and in accordance with HCS procedures.
· Determines when cash levels in drawer are insufficient.
· Sells vouchers to maintain and replenish cash levels and ensure continuity of service.
· Balances cash drawer as needed and ensures drawer has neither overages nor shortages.
· Prepares account form to reflect funds received.

Qualifications And EvaluationQualifications
Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Examples of Specialized Experience are: Positions that involve clerical work in the receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit, custody, or other clerical processing of cash items, when this includes (1) direct handling of the cash items and (2) use of cash accountability control methods. The work requires application of knowledge of (a) the negotiability, validity, and genuineness of cash items, (b) the acceptability requirements of supporting documents, and (c) cash processing procedures of Federal agencies and commercial institutions.
GS-6: Must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5 level.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Ability to process payments and deposits that come through the Agent Cashier's office.
Ability to reconcile, balance, and audit receipts and disbursements using the automated systems.
Knowledge of multiple automated system(s) and computer-generated products.
