University of Texas at Dallas Watson Professor of History in Dallas, Texas
The School of Arts and Humanities at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for the Anne Stark and Chester Watson Professorship in History at the advanced associate or full professor level. The professorship is designed to promote the study of U.S. History and the history of Texas, the Southwest, and/or the West. We seek an established scholar with an outstanding record of teaching and research. Salary is competitive and the position includes an annual research budget. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to research and publishing, undergraduate and graduate teaching, interdisciplinary education, and professional academic service.
The School offers an interdisciplinary program built on three interrelated areas: Literary Studies, Historical Studies and Aesthetic Studies. UT Dallas is a dynamic, growing research institution with a diverse student body and a strong research faculty.
Selection process begins December 1, 2016, and continues until position is filled.
Minimum Education and Experience
Terminal degree in the academic discipline, a record of creative productivity and professional achievement contributing to national or international recognition in the discipline, and tenure at the previous institution.
Preferred Education and Experience
Earned doctoral degree in history, with an outstanding record of teaching (including supervision of graduate students) and published research.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Offer four organized undergraduate and/or graduate classes in American history each year; supervise doctoral dissertations and other independent research; serve on graduate thesis and dissertation committees.
Conduct and disseminate research through publications (monographs, edited volumes, articles in academic journals and edited volumes) and presentations (invited lectures, conference presentations).
Contribute to the academic life of the university and profession through participation in committees and other forms of service.
Minimum education is the earned doctorate in history. Applicants must have at least 10 years’ experience teaching at the university level.
