Verizon Principal Linux Engineer in Dfw Airport, Texas


  • Architect and Design automation solution using latest technologies and toolsets.

  • Optimize Lifecycle services for Cloud Operations – provisioning, Upgrades, Decommission.

  • Automating configuration inventory and audit, reporting and CMDB-integration.

  • Automating security/compliance patch inventory and deployment.

  • Continually review and improve monitoring standards for supported products, technologies and services used or managed by Verizon Cloud.

  • Consult with strategic customers on customized solutions designed for their specific needs.

  • Participate in product management meetings to advise on roadmap and engineering activities for supported products, technologies and services.

  • Ensure capacity, performance and availability of all supported products, technologies and services remains in-line within agreed SLAs.

  • Deliver solution to track and report metrics to report utilization, quality, and health of supported products, technologies and services.

  • Ensure that technical documentation for all departmental solutions is complete, accurate and updated on a timely basis as changes are made. This includes but is not limited to: physical diagrams, logical application flow diagrams, standard administrative procedures and knowledge base articles for return-to-service activities.

  • Develop and implement High availability and disaster recovery strategies for supported products, technologies and services.

  • Design and Develop trend reports detailing availability, performance & capacity metrics for supported products, technologies and services.

  • Manage vendor relationships for supported products, technologies and services.

  • Assist with maintaining compliance for industry certifications such as PCI, FedRAMP, HIPAA etc

  • Mentor onshore and offshore resources to develop high performance organization to manage the daily engineering, operations and administration of supported products, technologies and services.

  • Assist with departmental key-performance indicators (KPIs), operational level agreements (OLAs) and availability metrics and provide weekly performance reports to executive management with analysis and accompanying plans to continually improve the department’s performance and efficiency.

  • Develop individual training plans on technical skills, soft skills and business skills.

  • Maintain proficiency and certifications on existing and emerging technologies and skill-sets through self-study, industry publications, company-provided training and vendor-provided training.

  • Identify, gain support and implement improvements to supported products, technologies and services infrastructure.


  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

  • Six or moreyears of experience with Linux server platforms.

  • Strong working knowledge of Linux Server administration and engineering.

  • Working knowledge of scripting languages – Shell, Python

  • Working knowledge of Frameworks such as Flask, Django

  • Working knowledge of relational and NoSQL Databases such as Mongo DB.

  • Working knowledge of Source control (Such as Git) best practices and tools in global working environment.

  • Working knowledge and experience with Configuration management tools such as Salt Stack (Salt API, Salt States, etc) and Puppet

  • Working knowledge of hypervisors such as Xen, VMWARE ESX, vSphere.

  • Knowledge of audit requirements and Remediation.

  • Six or moreyearsofexperience in a fast-paced distributed systems support or engineering position.

  • RHEL and other certifications are highly desirable.

  • Familiar with fundamentals of ITIL Service Delivery Framework V3.

  • Familiar with security standards and best practices.

  • Individual must interact extensively with all levels of management, business and IT, and is required to act in a professional and confident manner.

  • Self-motivator possessing a high sense of urgency and a high level of integrity.

  • Experience in an enterprise-class IT organization, managing large number of Linux distributed servers.

  • Strong customer service skills to deliver quality results in a demanding environment.

  • Able to work well under pressure and within short time constraints.

  • Excellent documentation, communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to efficiently prioritize and organize competing work demands with little oversight.
