Del Sol Medical Center is a Level II Trauma, 347 bed acute care TJC accredited hospital. Within our hospital campus, we also house an Inpatient, CARF accredited Rehabilitation Hospital. We are located on the Eastside of El Paso, Texas right off of Interstate 10. We provide exceptional patient care services to the El Paso and Fort Bliss communities, as well as Southern New Mexico and West Texas Regions.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The MST (Multi Skill Tech ) is a member of the nursing team and functions under the direction of the RN. This position is responsible for coordinating the activities of the nursing staff under the direction of the RN, LVN in a manner that supports the interdisciplinary plan of care of the patient, the doctors, the hospital departments, the patients, and the visitors for the assigned nursing department in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of Del Sol Medical Center.

POPULATION SERVED: Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served Medical/surgical diagnosis including but not limited to orthopedic, neuro, renal, metabolic, pulmonary systems, spine care, joint replacement, fractures, CVA, TIA, soft tissue injury and those requiring isolation/precautions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Demonstrates knowledge and application of basic patient care, to include activities of daily living, vital signs and intake and output.

  1. Participates in the unit based Quality Improvement process.

  2. Practices, endorses and provides customer service skills to patients, visitors physicians and staff.

  3. Demonstrates knowledge and respect of patient rights to privacy and protection of patient confidentiality

  4. Organizes and communicates patient care activities to the patient and to the Registered Nurse.

  5. Monitors and documents information regarding patient activities, as directed by the Registered Nurse.

  6. Other duties as assigned .

  7. Completes, executes and performs secretarial tasks such as, Order Entry, filing and organizing patient charts.

  8. Communicates, interacts and participates in team work on the unit.

    1. Demonstrates and understanding of patients charts, physician orders and nursing orders.

    2. Promotes and displays a positive customer oriented demeanor to patients, visitors, staff and physicians.

    3. Demonstrates an understanding and is proficient in the use of a computer and office equipment.

    4. Maintains the unit in optimal operating condition by ordering supplies, cleaning general work stations and stocking of supplies.

    5. Receives and processes referrals. Coordinates necessary registration function to include communication with patient and physician offices and insurance verification.

    6. Maintains ongoing communication with referral source on admission approvals, and bed availability.

    7. Verify eligibility and benefits, as well as initiate any pre-certification/authorization

    8. Ensure that all necessary signatures are obtained for treatments

    9. Answer any questions and explain policies clearly

    10. Welcome patient, family members and all visitors in a professional manner. Direct as needed

    11. Provides each patient with an individualized Health Insurance Outline at the time of registration to the unit.

    12. Coordinates and prepares all reports for compliance portion of the Rehabilitation Service Department to include pre-cert and re-cert process, and audits when necessary to assure compliance with documentation.

  9. Maintains recertification process in conjunction with the Prospective Payment System Coordinator

  10. and collaborates with HIM when necessary to coordinate coding and unbilled functions.

  11. Verify insurance benefits and determines pre-certification status. If pre-certification is required, initiates review or verifies authorization number. Enters all information and authorization numbers into the registration system.

  12. Secure all signatures necessary for treatments, release of medical information, assignment of insurance benefits, and payments of services from legally responsible parties. Obtain copies of necessary identification and insurance cards.

  13. Pre-registers patients for admission

  14. Communicates with charge nurse for bed availability and bed assignment.

  15. Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS BCLS Certification, Nursing Assistant Certification


REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or G.E.D. Certification from a Nursing Assistant Certification Course.


PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Read and writes Basic English. Knowledge of body substance isolation. Ability to use a computer, typewriter and calculator. Unit Secretary Skills Health Care Experience preferred
