Texas Tech University Nurse Practitioner-Gastroenterologist in El Paso, Texas

Position Description

Provides primary care as part of a health care team in an ambulatory setting in a particular discipline. Provides patient education and counseling as well as physical assessment. May participate in teaching programs for students and other student residents. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, and other clinic personnel and outside professionals. Some positions in the classification require travel to outreach clinics and home visits, and participation in educational efforts and special programs that occur outside of normal working hours.

Major/Essential Functions

Elicits record and interprets a complete health history. Orders tests and procedures as necessary. Performs a complete physical examination, assessment and distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings. Writes admissions, discharges and medication orders with co-signatures. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as necessary. Consults with attending or resident physicians prior to initiation of major procedure or plan. Formulates care plan based on physical exam or other data and implements plan Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

+Education:. Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program. +License/Certification:. Current RN license in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer your license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the appropriate nursing specialty from an approved certification program as recognized by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners. Recognition by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advance Practitioner.

Preferred Qualifications

Eligible for Delegated Prescriptive Authorization through the Texas Board of Nursing: Certified in NRP APN status designation as a Pediatric or Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. Active enrollment in NCC Certification Maintenance Program. Bi-Lingual Competence in English and Spanish.
