Job Summary

The El Paso VAHCS is part of VISN 17 Network, and is a complexity Level 3 standalone ambulatory care facility with over 800 employees and growing. El Paso VA Health Care System serves Veterans in far Southwest Texas and Dona Ana County, New Mexico. The El Paso VA Health Care System provides primary and specialized ambulatory care services at the main campus with consultants and fee-basis specialists supplementing the medical staff. The Health Care System serves Veterans residing in 8 Counties with an enrolled Veteran Population of over 73,000. Assistant Chief of Medicine Service

The El Paso VA HCS is Looking for a Board Certified/Eligible Physician for the position of Assistant Chief of Medicine Service.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years experience in primary care with preferred leadership experience as a Chief Medical Officer of a CBOC or Section Chief. The El Paso VA is a dynamic Academic teaching organization adjacent to William Beaumont Army Medical Center that consists of the Main facility with sixteen PACT Teams, Women's Health, Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic, PCMHI and two CBOCs in the community. ELPVAHC is projected to expand with the addition of three new CBOCs in the near future and will need additional management staff to oversee the department. We are also a teaching institution for the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Paul Foster School of Medicine and currently sponsor six residents in the Internal Medicine Residency Program at WBAMC with planned future expansion.

Duties will include administration of the department and clinical duties in association with the Chief and office staff as well as:

  1. Actively participation on various committees such as Credentialing & Privileging, Quality and Standards Boards.

  2. Performing Evaluations: OPPE & FPPE, Peer Review, Performance Measures, Quality Assurance.

  3. Academic Teaching: Program development in conjunction with our residency program, journal club and Precepting trainees.

  4. Leadership: Implement leadership projects for local and VISN level priorities, New Physician Orientation

  5. Patient Care: maintain clinical skills, respond to patient complaints

  6. Administrative: Assist with Congressional complaints, Recruitment & Retention

  7. Other duties as assigned.

Skills highly desirable: Leadership, Academic, Clinical, Teaching and Administrative.

Qualifications And EvaluationQualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Preferred Experience: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
