POPULATION SERVED: Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served: Test and treatment, outpatient procedures and pre-surgical clearance. All diagnosis/conditions of patients admitted into the hospital may be seen.

POSITION SUMMARY: The RN Staff Nurse provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures of Del Sol Medical Center and the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. In collaboration with the patient, the patient's family, and other members of the Health Care Team, the clinical RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and coordinates treatment plans. The RN prepares and monitors patients for outpatient procedures, performs patient assessments, provides patient/family education, and administers medications as ordered by physician via oral, IM, SQ, or IV route. The RN also assists the radiologist during stereotactic and ultrasound guided breast biopsies and completes the documentation of the procedure in the patients medical record. The RN also assists with specimen collection for laboratory tests such as nasal swabs, nasal washings, throat culture swabs, catheter urine analysis and culture, bag urine analysis and culture, and genital culture swabs. The RN is also responsible for performing EKGs and placing Holter Monitors. The RN performs pre op and/or pre heart catheterization assessments, prepares the record, and teaches patient for the day of procedure. The RN may also responsible for insertion of intravenous lines and accessing Port-A-Caths. The RN will document on nurses notes, Meditech, Electronic Medication Administration Record, and patient education records.

Supports, maintains, and provides an environment which is supportive of quality patient care through effective use for resources and personnel. 6. Practices, develops, and endorses customer service skills in relationships with internal and external customers. 7. Demonstrates Customer Service principles and behaviors appropriately. 8. Serves as the patient and family advocate with respect to the patient's rights to privacy by protecting confidential information. 9. Plans and implements patient care and teaching based on assessment and the age of the patient. 10. Evaluates and documents patient response; monitors and recognizes changes in physiological and psychosocial status; takes appropriate action based on assessment of the patient. 11. Monitors patients as needed. Provides basic life support/emergency measures as needed. 12. Accurately maintains daily records/charges (as applicable) of treatment administered. 13. Coordinates the collection and ongoing maintenance of patient information/data. 14. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED: (list required and preferred separately) Minimum Associates degree, diploma or BSN required RN, BSN Preferred

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: (list required and preferred separately) Current RN license in Texas, required BCLS, required ACLS, required within one year of employment or transfer to the department. NRP, preferred within one year of employment or transfer to the department. PALS preferred within one year of employment or transfer to the department

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED: (list required and preferred separately) Nursing experience required, 3 years preferred

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Ability to adapt to change readily and function in a professional manner. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. Reads and writes basic English with the basic skills necessary to transfer physician's orders. Knowledge of sterile procedures Ability to listen, empathize, and respond to patient, family, internal and external partners needs.
