This position is located at Westover Hills Community Based Medical Home, Department of Family Medicine and Community Medicine, Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Fort Sam Houston is located in beautiful San Antonio, TX with a warm climate, close proximity to beaches, and a population of approximately 1 million people. Additionally, there are many surrounding smaller towns within a 30 mile radius including Universal City, Converse, Kirby, Shertz, and Cibolo. For those who prefer country living, ranches and property can be easily found in the big and beautiful State of Texas.
Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment.

As a Physician Assistant, you will: Perform initial patient work-up to assess patient care and/or treatment. Provide primary care and/or preventive services to healthy individuals. Collaborate with physicians regarding patient management and/or revision of therapeutic plans. Determine the need for additional tests, such as laboratory tests and xerography (x-rays), to complete patient assessment. Discriminate between abnormal and normal findings to recognize early stages of physical, emotional, and/or mental problems.

Degree: Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the Secretary, U.S. Department of Education.
Certification: This position requires successful completion of the National Commission of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for continuing medical education (CME) and re-certification.
Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: performing routine and comprehensive physical examinations for patients of all ages as well as, reviewing medical history, prescribing medications, interpreting radiographs and lab results, or diagnosing medical conditions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
