Job Description

The Unix Delivery Engineer is responsible for infrastructure implementations based on designs from infrastructure architects. This person must be willing and able to perform detailed technical analysis on the designs and provide appropriate feedback to the architects, and to direct system administrators in their implementation. This will entail creating and modifying technical documents such as runbooks and software installation guides, maintaining artifacts in a project collaboration site and creating & monitoring service requests. The candidate for this position will be asked to provide troubleshooting expertise when needed, and must be willing to take on project-related or ad-hoc jobs that sometimes fall outside of the above definition.


  • Develop training and mentor teammates

  • Define standards for configuration, monitoring, reliability and performance

  • Serve as subject matter expert for multiple proprietary and open source technologies

  • Design and implement innovations that improve software engineering velocity, infrastructure resiliency, security, and data availability

  • Trains and/or mentors other team members, and peers as appropriate

  • Identifies opportunities to enhance the service delivery processes.

  • Identifies best in class software and hardware products to meet the needs of a world class application development team

  • Facilitates achievement of expected deliverables and obligations of Services Providers

  • This position will include off hour work at times in the evenings to perform infrastructure changes after hours.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, information systems, or related field plus 5 years of experience Red Hat Linux administrator plus demonstrated expertise in:

  • Strong networking fundamentals.

  • Support of WebSphere and Tomcat middleware

  • Configuration management and have managed an infrastructure with hundreds or thousands of servers and dozens of technologies.

  • Experience in support DevOps environment using tools like Git, Jenkins. Maven, Puppet/Chef.

  • Experience with running Docker containers in a commercial / production environment.

  • Experience with a PaaS / IaaS solutions

  • A knack and desire for troubleshooting tough problems and digging into how things work.

  • Comfortable working in a highly collaborative environment and very receptive to giving, receiving and implementing feedback.

  • Knowledge and experience in developing software using agile methodologies.

  • Proficient in authoring, editing and presenting technical documents.

  • Solid communicator with great customer service skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively via multiple channels (verbal, written, etc.) with technical and non-technical staff.

  • The ability to handle and keep track of many tasks at once and to manage time efficiently

  • Sound judgment and willingness to exercise same in sometimes ambiguous situations.
