Job Description

We are seeking a motivated, talented and experienced candidate to join the Forecasting and Optimizations team within the Revenue and Planning Technology organization. This team supports the AA Network Planning business group, responsible for developing and maintaining the flight network for the entire airline. The candidate will be engaged in multiple projects to create, develop, and maintain the forecasting and optimization systems used by the business group. Current technologies used in our systems include: Sencha Ext JS, Java (with various frameworks), tc Server, WAS, Oracle DB, FICO Xpress, Ehcache, grid engines, running on Linux & Solaris, with many other technologies being evaluated for future work.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for gathering requirements from non-technical business stakeholders as well as technical peer-IT and engineering groups for use in a team-based agile development environment.

Responsible for designing, developing, deploying, and configuring enterprise standard, multi-tier distributed solutions using object oriented techniques, and service oriented architecture.

Participates in all phases of the development process from inception through transition, using object oriented development tools to complete planning, analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement activities.

Participates in requirements review sessions. Evaluates user requests and proposes new development solutions and enhancements to existing tools, with consideration to cost and time required, compatibility with other applications, and system capabilities. Formulates plans outlining steps required to deliver requested functionality. Submits plans for approval. Prepares software analysis and design artifacts. Analyzes, reviews, and alters existing software to increase operating efficiency and to implement new requirements. Creates and modifies existing application and support documentation to reflect changed functionality. Actively participates in software design and peer code reviews. Monitors performance and provides support of application after implementation. May train users to use new or enhanced applications.

Provides technical assistance to users, and assists users in solving operating problems. Investigates and resolves problems with software products and systems. Oversee installation of hardware and software.

Accountable for recommending new technology and processes that will improve solution performance, customer service, reduce costs, and/or provide a competitive advantage.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in object oriented software development, including 5+ years of Java SE experience and 2+ years of Java EE experience.

  • Solid understanding of Object-Oriented architectures and languages such as Java or C++

  • Strong aptitude for class hierarchies, data relationships, and structured programming logic.

  • Good working knowledge of SQL, web services (SOAP and/or Restful), application servers (e.g. WebSphere, JBoss, WebLogic), Eclipse or Netbeans development environments or equivalent, unit, system and integration testing, UNIX and Linux operating systems, User Interface frameworks including MVC, development frameworks (Struts, Spring or equivalent).

  • Significant diagnostic and problem-solving skills involving servers, databases, applications, browsers, desktop computers, and/or user experience scenarios.

  • Requires knowledge and understanding of the systems development lifecycle (SDLC), and agile methodologies.

  • Requires ability to work and communicate equally well with developers, architects, project managers, business and QA analysts, and must be able to work well within a team environment as well as independently.

  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills.
