The Physician Office Representative assists with patient registration and accepts payments for

Physician/Clinic Services. Schedules, confirms, and verifies patient appointments and insurance

information. Receives and directs phone calls, patients, and other visitors.

Job Functions

Assist with patient registration duties by collecting and verifying insurance cards

and photocopying appropriate documentation. Verify patient demographics and

enter changes into computer. Direct patient to appropriate waiting area.

Accept payments for Physician/Clinic Services according to established

guideline. Post payments and enter charges into computer utilizing appropriate

ICD9 and CPT4 codes. Generate daily payment reports and verify cash drawer

against report.

Schedule, confirm, and verify patient appointments. Arrange follow-up visits and

referral appointments. Pull chart and print charge ticket for daily schedule.

Receive and direct phone calls, patients, and other visitors. Respond to routine

inquiries concerning practice services, and hours of operation, etc.

Assist with medical records duties by pulling charts for scheduled and walk-in

appointments, prescription refills and other requests. Retrieve, transport, sort,

and file medical record files. Check for and file misfiled charts. Copy medical


Verify patient insurance information by calling appropriate insurance company.

Copy patients insurance card for medical record. Obtain patient referral and

authorization from insurance company.

Receive, sort, and distribute mail.

May provide clerical support to other areas of practice as needed.

Complete Lab and x-ray requisitions as needed.

Enter Hospital charges for Physicians with patients admitted to hospital.

May perform other duties as assigned or requested
