The Occupational Safety Compliance Specialist is assigned to the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), Central Office, Health Services Division, National Environmental and Safety Compliance Branch, Washington, D.C. This position may be located in the Central or Regional Office. The Occupational Safety Compliance Specialist is responsible for assisting in the evaluation of occupational safety programs throughout BOP, as well as providing occupational safety training to BOP staff.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements:
There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.
You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled.
Some examples of qualifying experience are:
- Experience in developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management.
- Experience in applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements.
- Experience monitoring general industry and construction safety requirements and trends and adapting them to a larger organization.
- Experience which demonstrates expert knowledge in the safety field to research, propose, and develop occupational safety projects and solutions to address occupational safety problems and issues nationwide. Credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities.

What To Expect Next

The incumbent is subject to geographic relocation to meet the needs of the agency.
Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a pre-employment and panel interview, urinalysis, physical, and background investigation. All applicants are subject to, and must satisfactorily pass all screening requirements in relation to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit check.
This position is not test-designated and not subject to urinalysis testing under the BOP Drug Free Workplace Plan.
Current Federal Law Enforcement Employees:
Individuals selected who are under the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) or Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and who have not had three years "primary" law enforcement retirement coverage, will not be covered by law enforcement retirement while in this position. To regain coverage, individuals must return to a position with "primary" coverage.
Salary Range: $89,383.00 to $116,203.00 / Per Year
