GameStop Performance & Automation Senior Systems Engineer in Grapevine, Texas



Working under general supervision, the Performance & Automation Senior Systems Engineer will enable a fully-capable configuration pipeline to routinely and quickly maintain application performance monitors in a dynamic environment. This role will be supporting and evangelizing both conventional and instrumented software with an objective to reduce incident cycle time and alert noise throughout the enterprise. This role will also support the successful delivery of a comprehensive and mature “second generation” monitoring design for applications and services hosted in AWS, leveraging in some cases Amazon-specific (or endorsed) toolsets to accomplish this. This role will also participate in the development and maturation of the IT Performance website, which will be a real-time system that will illustrate real-time statistics from systems that the business can access and easily identify key metrics of importance and quickly access health states of systems. This position interacts with a manager several times a week, perhaps daily, to receive guidance and feedback. Many non-routine activities will require manager’s advanced approval.


  • Routinely maintain an evolving set of monitoring tools and monitored configuration items within those toolsets.
  • Continually work towards identifying and improving an alert model where only actionable alerts are produced, and false positive alerts are gradually eliminated
  • Encourage and partner with development teams to foster a level of collaboration where both the development, application teams and Performance Team own the monitoring and instrumentation configurations for their respective systems
  • Discover, automate, and monitor IT processes with an eye to flexibility, best practices, high performance and continuous improvement
  • Contribute by leveraging prior development experience to the future IT Performance website design, maturity plan, and adoption strategies across GameStop

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in Information Technology, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or other related field or equivalent year-for-year related work experience required
  • At least 5 years’ experience in information technology or related field
  • 2+ years’ experience with industry recognized monitoring tools; examples: NewRelic, Nagios, ExtraHop, SolarWinds
  • 2+ years’ experience with successful track record using such tool(s) SCOM (or similar enterprise toolset focused on monitoring) configuration knowledge
  • ITIL knowledge coupled with experience working in Agile project teams is an added plus as both are compatible with GameStop development teams. DevOps experience preferred
  • Experience planning, configuring and maintaining enterprise tools focused on application performance and the overall health state of production environments preferred


  • Expert coding (development) experience flexible and experienced IT resource
  • Expert technical skills with custom development and scripting experience
  • Working knowledge of hosting software and services inside AWS and understanding the key differences between cloud-hosted (AWS specific) monitoring versus on-prem monitoring
  • Proficient ability to think outside the box and remain flexible in a changing environment
  • Proficient ability to work with software code repositories or VCS; examples: TFS, Git, Subversion, BitBucket
  • Must be able to respond to alerts and staff coordination emergencies if needed on a 24/7 on-call basis
  • Working knowledge of Code Instrumentation for monitoring solution consumption
  • Proficient ability to communicate effectively with others using spoken and written English
  • Proficient ability to work under demanding time constraints and production goals
