Su Clinica Certified Nurse Midwife in Harlingen, Texas
Will perform all duties to ensure the patients have a pleasant and satisfactory experience in the manner in which their health care is delivered, managed, coordinated with both internal and external entities and in which the patient participates in the decision making. As a member of the clinical team, this position requires total support to the PCMH principles, policies, and procedures.
Functions under the administrative and clinical supervision of the Director of Su Clinica Women’s Health Center. Supports the established philosophy, policies and protocols of Su Clinica and adheres to the philosophy and standards of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
Due to the nature of SCF Services, it may be necessary for employees to work extended hours or other variations of the usual shift to ensure adequate care to patients. Employees must be easily accessible by phone.
Provides primary health care management for well women throughout the reproductive cycle within the framework of the established nurse-midwifery protocols. Provides care for healthy newborn infants up to eight weeks of age within the framework of established nurse-midwifery protocols. Provides family planning counseling and initiates appropriate contraceptive methods as indicated. Approaches patient care as a team involving clinical and non-clinical staff (eg. Physicians, mid-levels, educators, appointments staff) to achieve patient care objectives. Manages the normal (low-risk) pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum courses of women, including teaching, counseling and providing support to the women and their families.
Consults with back-up Obstetrician or Medical Consultant regarding patients with complications falling outside of the nurse-midwifery protocols. Consults with back-up Pediatrician regarding newborn complications falling outside of the nurse-midwifery protocols.
Reviews and completes medical, obstetrical, family, dietary and socio-economic histories within a problem oriented approach. Reviews and signs birth certificates.
Maintains statistics for the Women’s Health Center. Maintains current certification for basic CPR by the American Heart Association.
Participates in in-service education for clinic staff and other professional groups. Participates in the education and clinical supervision of nurse-midwifery students, interns other health care professionals obtaining on-site experience, including medical students and OB-GYN residents. Participates in patient education classes and programs.
Approaches patient care as a team involving clinical and non-clinical staff (eg. Physicians, mid-levels, educators, appointments staff) to achieve patient care objectives.
Evaluates and updates protocols, policies and procedures of the Women’s Health Center on an on-going basis. Assures that patient care services are consistently within developed criteria for the Women’s Health Center by participating in the Peer Review, Performance Improvement, Utilization Review and other activities conducted by the Women’s Health Center.
Must be a registered nurse in the State of Texas. Must be Board approved to practice as an advanced practice nurse. Experience in working with the public. Must be current with CPR. Spanish speaking helpful.
