The University of Houston seeks an outstanding clinician scientist to join the faculty of the Department of Clinical Sciences in its College of Optometry ( A tenure track position is open at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank for a clinician scientist doing basic, clinical or translational vision research. The position is available for clinician scientists with expertise in investigations of mechanisms of ocular or systemic diseases with ocular manifestations, in development of new therapies or diagnostic methods, in studies of visual processing in normal and abnormal systems, or epidemiological studies of disorders that impair vision. The successful candidate would join a research program that is supported by a P30 core grant from the National Eye Institute (NEI), and T32 and T35 training grants from the NEI to support research training of graduate and professional students and postdoctoral fellows. Existing biomedical research strengths within the College, University and the neighboring Texas Medical Center provide a unique environment for collaboration. A diverse patient community in Houston, and patient base in the University Eye Institute provide opportunities for patient-based or translational investigations. At the time of application candidates must have the following: an OD, MD, or equivalent degree and a PhD, or evidence of a strong background in vision research, and a commitment to excellence in teaching. The successful applicant will be expected to develop a nationally recognized, innovative and independent research program that attracts extramural funding and to participate in teaching in both the professional and graduate curricula in Optometry and Vision Science. In addition, a record of clinical collaboration is desirable.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be eligible for a license to practice optometry in Texas. Residency training and/or significant practice experience.
