University of Houston Assistant or Associate Professor of Organ in Houston, Texas
The Moores School of Music seeks candidates for a tenured or tenure-track position in organ at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to begin Fall 2017. The successful applicant should be an accomplished organist and teacher, with strong pedagogical skills in studio instruction, sacred music traditions and practices, and other organ-related topics. This position assumes abilities to recruit and train undergraduate and graduate student organists (freshmen through DMA), supervise doctoral documents, work collegially with other faculty, serve on student recital and faculty committees, and contribute to the intellectual and musical life of the School and the larger community. Other duties may include teaching courses commensurate with the candidate’s strengths, including those affiliated with the school’s MM in Sacred Music program.
In addition to its primary concert instrument in the Fine Arts Building Organ Hall by Rudolf van Beckerath (1974), the Moores School organ program maintains agreements with local churches, including a monthly student recital series at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart (Martin Pasi organ, 2010) and teaching/practice privileges and a shared organ intern/TA position at St Philip Presbyterian Church (Paul Fritts organ, 2010).
