West Houston Medical Centeris currently looking for aChargeNurse (RN) – 6thFloor – Medical/Surgical. __ _Responsibilities:_ * Under the general direction of the Manager/Director for the Medical Surgical Unit, the Charge Nurse is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to patients of any age group admitted for medical and/or surgical problems. The Charge Nurse assumes primary responsibility for the coordination of nursing care services provided on designated shifts in collaboration with the Manager/ Director. The Charge Nurse provides direction to Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, and non-licensed nursing personnel in providing direct patient care. The Charge Nurse supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff pursuant to the mission and objectives of the Hospital. * Serves as a role model displaying a positive attitude in a professional and courteous manner on a daily basis while performing job duties * Accepts changes in responsibility in a positive and effective manner * Embraces constructive criticism and profits by translating it into positive action * Displays customer service orientation when providing care and services * Maintains an environment conducive to open communication, cooperation and positive staff development through active listening and other effective communication * Serves as a role model to others demonstrating desirable work habits by creating an atmosphere of pride in workmanship * Supports hospital mission, objectives, decisions, and policies * Completes other activities as assigned * Assists Manager/Director in the supervision of department operations, seeking opportunities to improve quality * Demonstrates proficient knowledge regarding operation of patient-related equipment * Demonstrates proficiency in performance of job-related technical skills * Attends and actively participates in unit meetings, consistently * Participates in Nursing service committees * Accountable for maintaining and improving his/her own professional nursing knowledge and competence through establishment of personal goals and continuous self-development * Ensures nursing staff is adequately supervised and assigned tasks that match their competencies * Uses job knowledge and proficiency of skills to successfully assist in orientation of new employees * Ensures personal safety and the safety of the patients and visitor * Includes principles of infection control in nursing care implementation * Demonstrates knowledge of patient safety goals * Monitors adherence to Core Measure process

_Qualifications:_ * RN licensure by Texas Board of Nursing * A minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience in provision of medical surgical nursing desired * Previous experience in critical care nursing with certification (CCRN) preferred. * BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association required.
