UnitedHealth Group Coding Helpdesk Manager - Telecommute in Houston, Texas

The Coding Helpdesk Manager helps facilitate compliant, accurate and consistent coding within Optum360. The incumbent will coordinate all aspects of the Coding Help Desk, verify accurate content is contained within Client Coding Guidelines for each client and work with the Senior Education Manger to develop coder education.

Primary functions of the Coding Helpdesk Manager include answering coding questions from Inpatient (IP) coders and Outpatient (OP) coders and fielding questions from IP and OP coders and sending them to the appropriate member of the Compliance team to answer. The Coding Help Desk Manager assures that all coder questions are researched and answered timely, tracked and trended appropriately, communicated timely and when the Q&A is completed, organized in an archived repository.

The Coding Help Desk Manager identifies trends for coder education and quality improvement, distributes monthly reports on help desk activity to senior leadership, and assists with developing and delivering monthly coder education to facilitate consistent application of coding principles for all Optum360 coders and auditors. Primary Responsibilities: Communicates effectively and professionally with all levels of employees and managers; both verbally and in writing Presents a positive image/demeanor Takes initiative to complete projects, provides support to others and or manages multiple projects simultaneously Listens and quickly assess needs as well as possesses strong analytic, technical, organizational, and creative problem solving skills Possesses ethical standards, builds credibility and favorable relationships among Optum360 peers, leaders and clients Leads conversations and appropriately raise concerns or make suggestions to resolve problems Is a self-starter with ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time Has the ability to function effectively in a dynamic and challenging environment Required Qualifications: Must have an accredited Inpatient (CCS,RHIT, CIC) and Outpatient coding credential (CPC, CCS-P, RHIT) Minimum of 5 years experience in Inpatient coding and auditing Minimum of 5 years coding and auditing experience in Outpatient coding specialties Technical understanding of healthcare and health information industry practices, experience with multiple Electronic Medical Systems, coding knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT-4, HCPCS and Inpatient and Outpatient Coding Guidelines Proficient in application of coding rules, coding guidelines, policies, processes and practices Extensive knowledge of coding rules, guidelines and policies in the area of audit performed Proficient in Microsoft office – Word & Excel and is technically savvy Preferred Qualifications: ICD-10 Certified AA and or Bachelor’s degree Careers with Optum.
